Moving their base a little closer doesn't change anything, other than they would be easier to destroy in case of conflict. |

The aircraft are scheduled to arrive on January 17, 2023 and are going to support the Alliance’s reinforced presence in the region and monitor Russian military activity." I would like anyone who have military background to explain why would NATO deploy AWACS so close to the conflict zone, unless the potential for escalation is imminent. Russia just called up 500,000 troops so the Awacs are probably advanced recon for troop movements. |

Quoting: Dodger007 Makes their patrol tracks more time and fuel efficient to fly out of Romania. In other words, there is a NEED to have more surveillance. This means more time in the air, as you said. Now, can you explain to me why the NEED for more surveillance, now, then before? The AWACS from Germany will still patrol the Polish-Belarus & Polish-Ukrainian border. The AWACS deploying to Romania, can only be used for one area only, MORE efficiently then if they were in Germany, and that area is Odessa. Do you agree with me on this? |

Why Otopeni and not Kogalniceanu? Two reasons : First, Otopeni have the best air defense in Romania, and second, Kogalniceanu is in range of Iskanders from Sevastopol as well as cruise missiles from Russian ships in the Black sea. Kogalniceanu is just to close. |

[link to www.navalnews.com (secure)] There are already daily surveillance flight of P-8s and British spy planes over the Black Sea in the region. It's not like you need more to track a fleet. Got to be something else, and all I can see is increased surveillance (and possibly mapping routes of deployment/staging/etc. for U.S. 101st with Romanian support to Odessa) of the most important region for Ukraine : Odessa. Without Odessa, Ukraine is over. |

Without Odessa, Ukraine is over. I tend to agree with analysts like Scott Ritter who see Odessa as being a ways down the road in the Big Plan ( which none of us really know) …so not an immediate operation What I “ hope” is this does not mean the West is planning a big move on Sevastopol or Crimea to divert attention from the train wreck disaster the Ukes are facing on the DPR front You can count on America to do the right thing after exhausting every other alternative." Whataboutism is a russian shill technique. Usa was wrong then, russia is wrong now. Except a "minor" detail : NONE of the countries that the U.S. invaded or bombed to shit is in THEIR backyard. The U.S., except expansionist reasons, didn't have any risk to their security to attack Libya, or Syria or Yugoslavia, or Iraq, or whatever. Russia have a MAJOR security risk with Ukraine, that JUSTIFIES the war, especially after EIGHT YEARS trying to avoid it, while the West used the Minsk treaties to buy time for WAR.
