The AWACS have been patrolling the borders of Belarus and Ukraine 24/7 since the start of the Special Operation.

Moving their base a little closer doesn't change anything, other than they would be easier to destroy in case of conflict.

In other words, there is a NEED to have more surveillance. This means more time in the air, as you said.

The AWACS from Germany will still patrol the Polish-Belarus & Polish-Ukrainian border.


The AWACS deploying to Romania, can only be used for one area only, MORE efficiently then if they were in Germany, and that area is Odessa.

Why Otopeni and not Kogalniceanu?

Depends on whether the follow the same Black Sea patrol tracks with the same regularity…so, too soon to tell.

However the Russkis did just flush the port of Novorossiysk. So maybe this is a response.

Two reasons : First, Otopeni have the best air defense in Romania, and second, Kogalniceanu is in range of Iskanders from Sevastopol as well as cruise missiles from Russian ships in the Black sea.


Kogalniceanu is just to close.

There are already daily surveillance flight of P-8s and British spy planes over the Black Sea in the region.


It's not like you need more to track a fleet.



Got to be something else, and all I can see is increased surveillance (and possibly mapping routes of deployment/staging/etc. for U.S. 101st with Romanian support to Odessa) of the most important region for Ukraine : Odessa.



Without Odessa, Ukraine is over.

Since 2017, NATO sended AWACS in Romanian airspace. In 2017 this spy airplanes survey Crimeea and Black Sea... the game is planned long time before...we are aware only today of it.

Could be the reason of the chatter I'm reading on certain channels some are claiming something big is coming down the pipe in the coming days,

I tend to agree with analysts like Scott Ritter who see Odessa as being a ways down the road in the Big Plan ( which none of us really know) …so not an immediate operation

What I “ hope” is this does not mean the West is planning a big move on Sevastopol or Crimea to divert attention from the train wreck disaster the Ukes are facing on the DPR front
