Sergei Molodtsov, 46, who died in the war in Ukraine as part of the Wagner PMC, was buried with military honors in Serov, a town in the northern part of the Sverdlovsk Region. According to Yekaterinburg Online, Sergei had been recruited from a penal colony, where he had been serving a sentence for the murder of his own mother.

Here's how Sergei's personality was described by the town administration:

“He was a creative person; he was fond of bone carving and worked in a jewelry shop. Relatives remember Sergei as a remarkably unconventional man who loved life. He was an honest man. Truth was what mattered the most to him. He was always there for those in trouble, for those in need of help. Such people are called fun-loving guys. He loved music, freedom and speed. Blessed memory!”
The head of the Serov municipality confirmed the information about the deceased’s criminal record: “He had been serving a sentence for a serious crime, he was a murderer.” Despite that, Sergey Molodtsov was buried as a hero on January 5: his coffin was carried by the military, and the farewell speeches were made by veterans, who praised his courage.

According to Molodtsov's criminal case, which had put him in prison, the “hero” beat his own mother to death:

“While intoxicated, Molodtsov was in an apartment with his elderly mother. He delivered no less than six blows to her head, torso and extremities with his hands and legs,” the verdict reads.
