These would have been hydrogen fuel cells. If we could power all of that with three fuel cells...why haven't we made advancements to the widespread usage of the fuel cells. That was in 1969. What the fuck have we been doing? Is it as simple as big oil money cockblocked the technology? |

The LM did not need super thick walls of steel it was made of thin aluminum and reinforced with spars and covered with another thin covering. It’s almost the same way houses are made in the US. Strong and light. There is a reason why a heavy bathyscape was not needed to go to the moon. The pressure is zero, the mass required to protect an astronaut is relatively low. The nice looking pressure vessel was on the inside wall not the outside. Also, have you been to Houston or Cape Kennedy? Look at the rockets, they are made of really thin aluminum. Up close they look like rather cheap corrugated tin, but on TV they look all glossy and shiny. Have you seen an SR-71? Very thin walls were used on that guy too. Parts look like thin bent and riveted sheet metal. Not pretty at all, but from a distance it’s a really sexy smooth airplane. Mass is not good for aerospace systems. The thing with fuel cells is it takes just as much energy to get the hydrogen disconnected from the oxygen as it does to reconnect it, there is zero gain. Then for communication bach and forth would they not need the same receiving antenna on the moon??? . where i grew up there is a big field infront of the house where ham radio guys used to meet up every year. the antennai they used where atleast 30 feet tall. They were just speaking to people on the otherside of the world never mind off world. |

Here is what it looked like under all that. [link to nordenretireesclub.org (secure)] |

There were many other parts to the rocket that delivered it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 85074412 The thing that concerns me is the lack of stars. I live in a rural area and have more star density than that. Does it have something to do with being on the lit side of the moon? Not interested in mouth breather replies. Stars are relatively dim and won't show up in pics exposed for bright sunlit objects. They require long exposures. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 85073891 No lighting and no flash on Moon Cameras. Shadows cast in multiple directions from multiple light sources. It was ALL FAKED. /end Multiple light sources would make multiple shadows on each object. That is NEVER seen. All the shadows are explained with perspective. |

So Grumman and the engineers working there were in on it? Or did they attach a loose external insulative covering similar to many satellites to a purpose built craft that looks like this underneath? The pressure is zero ... really thin aluminum ... corrugated tin ... Very thin walls ... thin bent and riveted sheet metal You have no idea what vacuum does to your nice little thin alu walls . By definition a vacuum, being nothing, will do nothing as it can't create a force, as it is nothing. The force comes from the pressurized air within pushing out. And those thin aluminum walls are perfectly adequate for that. |

Do you know how a camera works? When it faces a bright object, the diaphragm closes, making fainter objects in the background invisible. The eye does the same. That's why you don't see stars during the day, and yet they are there. Not a pro photographer but that response above this one is serious? Is this person equating a cell phone camera to a high end film camera aka 'hasselblad'? That said, would it take much to make adjustments so stars are viewable? Aperture adjustments and whatever? |
