The users of the Internet paid attention to the unique video footage, which captures the moment of the Il-76 military transport aircraft flying at an extremely low altitude. The plane was flying approximately 10 meters above the ground, while directly under it were attack aircraft Su-25.

On the video footage one can see that the pilots and technical staff of the airbase are both interested in such a flight and very much afraid because of the rumble of the aircraft engines and the extremely low altitude at which the crew maneuvered the aircraft. A single wrong move by the crew could have had disastrous consequences, but the pilots managed to navigate the plane perfectly over the military airfield.

The video footage is quite old, but attention has only now been drawn to it. Judging by the coloring and identification of the aircraft it is more than likely a Ukrainian air force base, but the exact name of the military airfield is not given.

Near Soledar, assault squad volunteers captured an elite commando from the U.S. Marine Corps detachment, Michael Winter. It is known that the mercenary has combat experience in Syria, Iraq and Libya under his belt. The marine arrived in Ukraine as an instructor.

Earlier, participants in the liberation of Soledar and the acting head of the DNR, Denis Pushyli, also reported that foreign mercenaries were captured during the capture of the city. This was reported by Rambler.

Elon Musk reacted to the scandal surrounding Russian hockey player Ivan Provorov, who was criticized for choosing not to appear in a rainbow jersey for the NHL's Pride Night campaign earlier this week. Musk appears to have backed Provorov after he faced calls to be expelled from the United States.

"The pendulum has swung too far," Musk tweeted Friday, responding to a clip in which NHL analyst A.J. Gradek suggested that if Provorov does not support U.S. liberal values, he should return to Russia to take part in a military campaign in Ukraine.

"The gay movement, in about 7 years, has gone from 'equal rights' to 'go the hell away and die in a trench warfare if you don't wear a shirt of pride!" read the original post from Twitter user Maxwell Meyer, to which Musk responded, and who shared a clip of Gradek criticizing Provorov.

Musk commented on the criticism of Provorov. © Chirp
The scandal began Tuesday night when Provorov decided not to join his Philadelphia Flyers teammates for an on-ice warm-up before a game against the Anaheim Ducks, during which players wore special rainbow jerseys.

Provorov, who is Russian Orthodox, later explained that he "respects everyone's choice" but chose not to participate because he wanted to "stay true to himself and his religion."

The 26-year-old was defended by Flyers coach John Tortorella, who said Thursday that Provorov "did nothing wrong." Speaking to reporters, Tortorella said: "Just because you disagree with his decision, it doesn't mean he did anything wrong."

"[Provorov] wasn't looking or trying to go against him [Pride Night]. He just felt he didn't want to [participate] ... He didn't beat the drum, he didn't say a word, he just wanted to mind his own business," the coach added. [link to www.rt.com (secure)]

Re: January 2023 Ukraine updates.
The U.S. is reaching out to armed groups that oppose the Taliban and secretly give money to the Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS), said Zamir Kabulov, Russian presidential envoy to Afghanistan.

When asked if the U.S. is in contact with the Afghan opposition in an interview with Russia 24 television on Friday, Kabulov said, "Yes, there is such data."

The Americans do this "because they want very much to avenge their shameful military and political defeat in Afghanistan, and in retaliation they do everything they can to prevent peace from being established in this troubled land," he said.

But the worst thing is that, in addition to contacts with the armed opposition in Afghanistan, the Anglo-Saxons secretly sponsor the Islamic State that is aimed at undermining not only the stability of our Central Asian partners... but also the security of Russia," Kabulov added.

The U.S. and its allies withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021 after two decades of intervention. The chaotic withdrawal of billions of dollars worth of U.S. military equipment came after the Taliban swept through the country and seized the capital Kabul within weeks, facing little resistance from the Afghan military, which American forces had trained to confront the militants.

Sanctions and the withdrawal of U.S. and other foreign aid to Afghanistan after the Taliban seized power have further exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the country. Under previous U.S.-backed administrations, this aid accounted for about 75 percent of the Afghan budget. About 24.4 million people, or more than half of the country's population, are now in need of humanitarian aid, according to the UN.

In December, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken defended the Biden administration's decision to leave Afghanistan, saying that if U.S. troops had stayed there, "it would have, I think, made it much harder to support what we were able to do and what others were able to give Ukraine" amid the conflict with Russia.

MORE: U.S. admits withdrawal from Afghanistan helped arm Ukraine

The U.S. Brown University estimates that the invasion of Afghanistan cost Washington more than $2.1 trillion. The U.S. Defense Department said Thursday that military aid provided to Kiev since the conflict with Moscow began last February has exceeded $26.7 billion. [link to www.rt.com (secure)]

Journalists of the Daily Mail reported that an employee of the Ukrainian Foreign Legion threatened her superiors to make public data regarding the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to the authors, the person in question is the director of public relations, Emesha Fajk, who has dirt on the Ukrainian military command and their entourage. She claims that she can "break up" the army.

"If ... I start talking about everything I know and everything I've seen and how spineless people are, it will burn the army to the ground."
The Daily Mail quoted the staffer as saying.
The authors note that the legion's command has tried several times to fire Fike, but she has kept her post through threats. According to the journalists, she has information about corruption in the Armed Forces and the attitude towards foreign mercenaries. [link to voennoedelo.com (secure)]

Speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin said that if the West transferred to Kiev offensive weapons that could strike Russian territory, it would lead to a global catastrophe. He believes that the U.S. and the European Union are moving the world to a big war, which will be very different from previous conflicts.

"If Washington and NATO countries supply weapons that will be used to strike peaceful cities and try to seize our territories, as they threaten, it will lead to retaliation with more powerful weapons."
wrote the speaker in his Tlgrm channel.
According to Volodin, the effectiveness of Russian weapons should not be doubted. So Western politicians should understand that their decisions will lead to the death of their country. They are now responsible for the peaceful future of their people. [link to voennoedelo.com (secure)]

Ukrainians are leaving Bakhmut (artyomovsk).

Not sure how many. Is this is the big retreat? or just some small contingent pulling out?

From 1924 to 2016, the city was called Artemivsk (Ukrainian: ) or Artyomovsk (Russian: ;). On 4 February 2016 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine confirmed the city would be renamed, and revert to its original name of Bakhmut

Two servicemen who served in what is considered an elite unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) defected to Russia on Sunday. This was reported to TASS by law enforcement agencies in the region.
"Two Ukrainian servicemen today crossed over to our side in the Zaporozhye direction. These soldiers from the elite unit, they have already begun to share important information with our side," - said the interlocutor of the agency.

Earlier, Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the We are with Russia movement, told TASS that at least a few dozen servicemen from the AFU Territorial Defense Forces had switched over to Russia's side in the Zaporizhzhya direction since mid-December, when the number of such cases had risen sharply. According to him, the facts of crossing over in this direction have become a regular occurrence.

Re: January 2023 Ukraine updates.
The new $2.5 billion military aid package includes so-called "small diameter land launch bombs" (GLSDB).

The peculiarity of this ammunition is the ability to hit targets at a distance of 150 kilometers with high accuracy. This, of course, is not the 300 kilometers that ATACMS missiles hit. The Kiev regime has long asked for them from Washington. But also a significant addition to the current 80 kilometers that Western multiple launch rocket systems hit. The range of the GLSDB ammunition will now include not only Crimea and all the liberated territories of Donbass, but also significant areas of the Kursk, Bryansk, Belgorod, and even Orel and Voronezh Russian regions.

The Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) was developed by Sweden's Saab, based on the U.S. GBU-39 SDB, a small-diameter aircraft bomb developed by the Boeing Corporation. The GBU-39 has been in production since 2006. The Swedes added an M26 engine from a decommissioned missile to the U.S. planetary bomb, which immediately increased its tactical value. The ammunition could now be launched from ground-based missile systems such as the M270 MLRS, HIMARS, Korean CHUNMOO and others like it.

The GBU-39 SDB was widespread in the U.S. Air Force because its size makes it possible to multiply the number of munitions on an aircraft. One mount for a 900-kilogram free-falling bomb accommodates four high-precision SDB gliders. Their explosive power is, of course, less - one bomb contains only 16 kilograms of explosive. But the high accuracy allows for a single flight of the aircraft to hit several targets even at a depth of two meters, of which one meter may be reinforced concrete. The fuse is programmed for an airburst to defeat enemy manpower, or with a delay to destroy fortified objects.

Another advantage of the ammunition is that nothing new needs to be produced. More than 30,000 GBU-39 SDBs have already been produced in the USA. There are also a huge number of engines from decommissioned cluster warhead missiles. The process of assembling the new product requires neither new production facilities, nor assemblers with high qualifications.

The original GBU-39 aerial bomb has integrated wings that unfold after being dropped from an aircraft. On the GLSDB, the rocket-powered bomb, the wings unfold after the projectile reaches the target altitude and flight speed. The spent engine fires off, and then the munition plans and maneuvers. It can fly around obstacles and strike from places no one is expecting.

The SDB-1 is equipped with an inertial navigation system, INS Navigation, coupled with a GPS positioning system. These bombs are used to destroy stationary targets such as fuel depots, bunkers, trenches, etc.

In the SDB-2 variant, in addition to the inertial navigation system, the munition is equipped with a three-mode seeker - radar, infrared homing and a semi-active laser. This allows it to detect and attack mobile targets.

In 2016, the U.S. Air Force contracted with Scientific Systems Co. to develop "vision technology" for navigation and precision targeting. The bomb will be able to compare a database of terrain with what sensors see and adjust its course. The first tests of ImageNav technology demonstrated guidance accuracy within three meters.

The GLSDB bomb, unlike missiles and artillery shells, does not follow a ballistic trajectory and launchers do not need to be unfolded to point it toward the target. The projectile can attack the target at any angle, fly around obstacles and even hit objects by flying around the launcher. In this case, however, the maximum range is reduced to 70 kilometers.

This ammunition can also be fired from unconventional launchers - a container mounted in the back of a truck. Such a method makes the launcher a cheap substitute for the HIMARS, the number of which in Ukraine is rapidly decreasing. The U.S. industry is hastily setting up production of cheap "launchers" to avoid sending Kiev expensive multiple-launch rocket systems. [link to newizv.ru (secure)]

The Small diameter bomb I believe uses the same stuff that they used to demolish the World trade center towers.

Nano thermite.

Nanothermite has more power per unit of weight and size, and burns way hotter than conventional explosives.

Nasty stuff. It also gives the small F-35 internal bomb bay more firepower in a limited space available.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the supply of several dozen tanks to Ukraine could not fundamentally change the situation. He said this in an interview with the German TV channel ARD, the conversation was published in his Tlgrm channel.

When the Russian army, which has a thousand tanks, is against us, no country decides that they give 10 tanks, 20, 50 does not solve the problem
At the same time, he added, the supply of tanks by the West motivates the fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

Earlier, Zelensky criticized Chancellor Olaf Scholz of the Federal Republic of Germany for indecision in the issue of the transfer of heavy armored vehicles. "This is not the way to do it - to say that I will do as much as you, if America will do something, then I will do it," Zelensky said. In addition, he also criticized Scholz's words that in the supply of tanks Germany will act by coordinating steps with Washington and NATO. "If there is no political will on this issue, one should not look for excuses. It is necessary to say no, and not to say that someone else is not ready," the Ukrainian leader stressed. The removal of the U.S. president from office could be a universal solution to all global problems. This was the opinion expressed on Sunday, January 22, by Jeffrey Young, a Democratic American politician and candidate for governor of Kentucky.

"If someone asks me, 'What should we do in this horrible situation?' - I would say, 'Initiate impeachment and remove the president of the United States along with his entire national security team.' That's the best answer to any challenge facing humanity," he wrote on Twitter.

Young later added that from 1945 to the present day, the United States has been led by "imperialistic, aggressive, brutal, <...> neoconservative war criminals." According to him, this unflattering description could be applied to every president during that period.

Earlier, on January 14, columnist Rebecca Gordon said that American authorities were convinced of their own impunity for war crimes. According to the journalist, this is confirmed by the multi-billion dollar expenditures on the defense industry, as well as the maintenance of 750 recognized military bases in 80 countries and unleashing numerous wars.

On January 13, Jeffrey Young called for the immediate removal of current U.S. leader Joe Biden for war crimes in Ukraine, Yemen, Syria, Iraq and so on.

Prior to that, on January 7, the politician pointed to the self-delusion of those who believe that there is no Nazism in Ukraine. He also called the political regime in Kiev a puppet of Washington and NATO. [link to iz.ru (secure)]

Former Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin announced the seizure of various enemy trophies in the DNR, including Starlink satellite communication terminals.

The high-tech equipment was used by Ukrainian servicemen directly at combat positions. The head of SpaceX and Tesla, Ilon Musk, stated that the Starlink terminals supplied to Ukraine were the only system that worked uninterruptedly in conditions of military conflict. He also said that "Russia intends to destroy this system.

The Russian side now has an opportunity to study the work of Starlink terminals and their operation. Probably soon the specialists will be able to create "substitute" signal points and thus disrupt the operation of satellite communication complexes, which still remain with the military of the AFU.
