Then, bags of beans and rice from the restaurant supply store. Tell them you are stocking for a large church camp out. Mormons, I.e., Rainy Day Foods, was next when I had enough to buy a pallet of storage food. That was in 2009 and we are slowly eating it so we can rotate our stock. Bulk Foods is good online for spices, nuts, dried fruit. Began buying livestock such as cows, goats, and sheep to slaughter and process myself. Deep freezers are full! |

The single best place to look is library sales but yard and rummage sales can surprise you. Quoting: Lowkey Cyberpunk When I started building my library it was clearly with a goal of being a complete resource in a grid down situation. With that in mind I included books that would be useful beyond the near term. This means that while I was looking for texts on survival I was also picking up stuff like the Foxfire books, old technology like steam engines, weaving and spinning, woodworking, blacksmithing, etc. At the same time I was looking for references and textbooks like mathematical tables, engineering manuals, strength of materials, chemistry, electronics, microbiology, computer programming, dictionaries, history and a host of other topics. And then there's literature. One thing that I've been concerned about is the attack on the classics that formed the thinking of our culture so I've been picking up old books that haven't been abridged or 'modernized'. And these are the cheapest of them all because no one else seems to want them. I used to live just down the street from a local library and never even got a library card for them because my collection was far superior to their glorified collection of romance novels. Public libraries, in their zeal to cater to the woke culture, have become less and less relevant to practical knowledge. So if you can spare the room, please consider forming a library of your own. Even a 3 shelf bookcase can house an enormous amount of information that can provide you and those around you with the ability to not only survive but even thrive in a SHTF environment. For reference—This one is great! Pocket Ref 4th or 5th edition. Has everything.. small for a backpack, fun to read under $12 on Amazon Pocket Ref 4th Edition [link to a.co (secure)] |

Quoting: darth Thank you for adding that info. I had totally forgot about Craigslist. Credit unions are not insured by the F.I.C.A. they are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) for the same amount as savings banks, that is $250,000. This information is available online . There is an Electronic Share Insurance Calculator to figure out how much you can get on all your accounts (called Shares) should the credit union fail. This is all I have found out so far an d I am going to do more research. I thought this was good to know. Quoting: loofa Safest banks are in small towns and their customers are farmers. Lots of rich farmers out there. |

Quoting: tamaracks 82351525 Butter is a good project for small kids 6 and up. We had fun the other day with the grandkids making butter. Pour some cream in a jar with a marble and let the kids shake it till their arms are falling off. I played KC and The Sunshine Band Shake Shake Shake. They liked the song so much the 6 yo. probably played it 50 times. (I had to finish the project with a mixer and strain the buttermilk off.) For those who may not know KC and the Sunshine band: |

They are easy to care for and you can raise them indoors or on your balcony. High quality meat and eggs and both are regarded as luxury items by restaurants, a potential source of income.. If you have space, get a couple tons of building sand, couple tons of gravel. As well as being useful for building projects, you can fill sandbags for flood protection, or ballistic protection if needed. We also have several pallets of concrete blocks always on hand. Quick and easy way of constructing raised beds, and they are removable as well. If you haven't got a driveway alarm, why not?? They are cheap and easy to install and will give you early warning of visitors, welcome or otherwise. |
