User ID: 77416429 United States 12/27/2022 04:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Several factors, including the mess that this week’s weather has created, have combined to bring Southwest Airlines into a nearly full-stop operational meltdown. Quoting: Flying Elvii Besides the weather, they have personnel issues in several cities, the reservation system has collapsed under the rebooking load, and the aircraft and crew scheduling systems are completely overloaded. 10’s of thousands of people across the country are stuck…. As a result, Southwest will halt almost ALL of it’s flights on Tuesday and Wednesday to reser the people and airplanes required to make the airline work properly. Southwest has canceled thousands of flights since the 22nd, and has declared an emergency status that suspends several union work rules, in an attempt to get back on track. Passengers in some cities are being told they can’t even rebook a canceled flight until Dec31st, AT THE Earliest! https://twitter.com/_/status/1607511661857890304 https://twitter.com/_/status/1607602838640943104 https://imgur.com/2RMN3vz Short of a bankruptcy shutdown or 9/11, I cannot remember this ever happening in my 30+ years in the aviation business! That ACARS photo looks fake op....I would be careful posting that without verification of it's being authentic. Southwest is a federally regulated company, publishing stuff like that, if not true, can lead to some bad repercussions for someone doing it. Also, your thread title is seemingly not true. I've looked for any source and found none. Last Edited by FeedYourHead on 12/27/2022 04:28 PM Ask Alice when she's 10ft tall This is a battle for the future of civilization. Quoting: BrainGuy, NFT FFS OMG That'll fix it. Southwest took all religious exemptions. They did however, allow a huge number of pilots retire early in covid overreaction. I heard a rumor that a horrible threatening letter went out to rampers, who were working in freezing conditions and a blizzard. Many rampers walked. All those bags left on airplanes? I think you can blame management. Cheers! |

There wasn’t enough people picking up extra time, and folks must have called off to prompt this letter. It was all stick, not a carrot to be seen. The letter was a doozy and the shut down, all on management. A lot of pilots we’re there, waiting on a plane, or they had a plane a needed a co pilot. Some flights were loaded and staffed, still cancelled. Cheers! |

AZ40 User ID: 79621597 United States 12/28/2022 01:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Must be miserable to have flights canceled on you Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79604694 Especially when you just wanna go home to your bed I was lucky. Up in the Denver area for Christmas and flew in to Colorado Springs. Had a rental car. After the return flight to PHX was cnxld soon realized that if I returned it I might be giving up my only chance to drive home. Went to Colorado Springs airport and also had made a separate car rental reservation - one way from Springs to AZ. The person at the car counter was able to honor it with the current car we still had. Also able to help us with a low one way drop fee. They and every other car rental company had no cars at all - none. Zero. If we had given up that car we'd be up there in Denver until Friday, Saturday or Sunday. So really feel blessed how it worked out for us. But along the way have seen my relationship with SW ruptured. This isn't the first time they've dropped the ball in my recent experiences with them. I fly 30 - 35 flight segments with them each year. In 2023 I'll still fly SW burning points and using Companion Pass. But then going forward I will look at all airlines and pick and choose based on what's best for each situation. They've really f*cked up what was once a great airline. I feel sorry for the good employees still there. And especially for everyone else stranded who was not as fortunate as I was to get to where they need to be going. . |
