Quoting: Imbecile Airlines 74810696 Sounds like yet another important reason to justify never, ever going near an airport ever again. PS…. Look at all the bags and baggage in that video. Only Heaven knows how many thousands of tens of thousands of random bags and baggage are lost in the sauce right now. Seems to happen every Christmas time. Yup. Not a good time to travel. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 85007998 United States 12/27/2022 12:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow, they are still using the ARINC ACARS Messaging crap. I worked for NWA years ago and wrote the software that interfaced the Unisys USAS Messaging software to the ACARS devices for NWA. That's a vulnerable system. While there was security on the mainframe to access the Messaging app, there was no security between the mainframe and the ACARS terminals. This was scary because aircraft command messages can be sent via ACARS which can change various aircraft flight parameters. All someone would need to know is the proper message syntax and a means to insert a message into the ARINC network and they could cause a tragic accident. I wonder if they ever fixed that. Anyhow, airlines maximize the use of their limited aircraft and flight crew through right routing schedules. The aircraft routing people are left with a chaotic mess when weather disrupts their routing schedules. It's a very complex operation involving so many factors. Arrivals and departures have to be scheduled. Flight crews have to be scheduled. Refueling has to be scheduled. Flight plans have to be filed. Gate availability needs to be scheduled. Proper aircraft has to be matched to load capacities of flights. There are weight and balance checks to be done. There's cargo that's often put on these planes too. It's really a complex ordeal. Aircraft routing is a very stressful job. And you have to be sharp and smart too. There's a lot to know and consider when doing that job. Anyhow .. this could be easily resolved by making flying much MUCH more expensive. Flying during the Xmas and Thanksgiving holidays has always been challenging. It's also scary flying that time of year. So many more things can go wrong because of the freezing weather. Maybe if we outlaw religion we could put a stop to this Xmas nightmare every year, lol. It's so stressful for so many people. We need a new Xmas tradition: stay home! |

You know I grew up flying in the 60s 70s 80s and 90s and my father was gone constantly all over and there were snow storms and blizzards and snow bombs and whatever and never heard of these kind of delays during those time frames isn’t that interesting. Quoting: redhed6971 No, really it happened all the time, you didn't have the immediacy of the internet back then. You just accepted it. We always had "snow days" up north. Yep…heck, nearly every Christmas movie that involves air travel generally starts will all flights being cancelled due to weather. “A person is smart, people are stupid.” “Nobody knows until everybody knows” |

No surprise. And what other vital infrastructure group of professionals is highest vaxxed into death and debilitation percentages that are baffling and unprecedented? All America's armed forces. And it comes right as we move into an all but inevitable multi-front world war. Imagine America with all it's top military fighter and bomber pilots out sick indefinitely... And you probably thought that the recent grounding of all US B2 bombers and X35A fighter jets was due to a couple of bad landings? Israel just announced grounding of all its X35A's also. Israel just happens to be the first vaxed and highest 5x vaxxed nation on earth. Conicidink? Ill Eagle is sitting duck, and we are so fucked. When he got to Miami, he overheard a pilot telling a SW customer service agent that they could not reach the co pilot and he feared the worst. Once he got to Chicago (was supposed to fly to New Orleans), a pilot was out because of illness so he had another flight delay. T finally got to his home airport at 6 am when he was supposed to have landed at 4pm the previous day. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 85008249 United States 12/27/2022 02:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Several factors, including the mess that this week’s weather has created, have combined to bring Southwest Airlines into a nearly full-stop operational meltdown. Quoting: Flying Elvii Besides the weather, they have personnel issues in several cities, the reservation system has collapsed under the rebooking load, and the aircraft and crew scheduling systems are completely overloaded. 10’s of thousands of people across the country are stuck…. As a result, Southwest will halt almost ALL of it’s flights on Tuesday and Wednesday to reser the people and airplanes required to make the airline work properly. Southwest has canceled thousands of flights since the 22nd, and has declared an emergency status that suspends several union work rules, in an attempt to get back on track. Passengers in some cities are being told they can’t even rebook a canceled flight until Dec31st, AT THE Earliest! https://twitter.com/_/status/1607511661857890304 https://twitter.com/_/status/1607602838640943104 [imgur] [link to imgur.com (secure)] Short of a bankruptcy shutdown or 9/11, I cannot remember this ever happening in my 30+ years in the aviation business! 798 in the fleet, roughly 1/4 of that in the air right now. |

So you come from a "miles long" thread with some good inside SW employee information and all you bring us is a critique about what people do and don't want...Thanks for nothing Southwest expanded but didn't invest in any new software to keep up if things needed changes on the fly because they expected their employees to go the extra mile and manually figure it out. So a big winter blizzard on one of the busiest days with a short overworked pissed off staff they won't give raises to, and the entire vaccine mandate bs brewed up the perfect storm of chaos they can't handle. |
