I would say the down fall began with the escalation of the Veitnam War and then took the biggest blow in the mid 1970's with Jimmy Carter destablining the Middle East. Stupid hippy in a suite was stupid and thought the whole world thought like him.

I feel that was the best America was in terms of quality of life. The whole counter culture/hippie movement hadn't started yet. America wasn't flooded with illegals and crime. There were lots of places in America like Mayberry.

I think a lot of us probably picked the decade we grew up in. I was 8 in 1970 and graduated high school in 1981. It seemed like a glorious time. I know there were things wrong, but, it didn't seem like it to me. Since I'm kind of a technologist, it was a time of opportunity. In behind it all, our own government was torpedoing our success.

Government is flypaper for corruption. It attracts it and they cannot seem to leave no matter how hot or cold it gets. I worry now about my grandchildren and the kind of world they will (are) inherit(ing). I just wish we'd get the party started so we can clean up this mess. They keep pushing and pushing. I am afraid that there is no peaceful solution.
