If you want to compare economies, you need to look at specific production quantities, export quantities, etc. The US of course has better cars and consumer goods. But that isn't the question here. You left out nuclear fuel for our Commercial Nuclear Reactors. Russia has been providing about 25% of the actual fuel rods themselves. In addition Russia has been providing about 60% the highly enriched and processed uranium that US processors then use to make nuclear fuel rods. Taken together Russia has been providing about 55% of the fuel our Commercial Nuclear Reactors use. It isn't just oil, gas and minerals ... it is also the major provider of one of the NON-hydrocarbon energy sources that we use in the US. (US gets about 20% of it's electricity from nuclear power ... so that means Russia is providing the fuel that we consume for fully 12% of the electricity we consume in addition to the oil /diesel /natural gas they were providing. (the reason for the diesel shortage in the NE is because that part of the country was getting about 20%-25% of the diesel they consumed directly from Russia - still probably about the same, just transhipped now via Italy etc. and Amsterdam) |
