I served with soldiers who received a dishonorable discharge for minor missteps. They had just upset the wrong chain of command looking to put a notch in the belt. I served with others who never should have got in the Army in the first place. Point being, I don't hold a person's discharge against them if I don't know the details.

This Paul Whelan, the Marine Biden left behind in favor of sportsballer doing drugs is an odd story. They're saying he has a dishonorable discharge for some heavy duty theft while he was in the Marines. They're also saying he was the head of global security for Borg-Warner.

You can't manage an AutoZone with a dishonorable discharge, but this guy goes to the top of Borg-Warner?

People buying this story are assuming he just lied to get the job at Borg-Warner. They don't understand that large companies nearly always hire private investigators before the put people in positions of trust. That's not likely that they just believed a fib.

It's an interesting hole in the story.
