What do you know about the Russian prison system that isn't straight up CNN propaganda?

I forget her name, but the Russian woman who went to jail for joining the NRA in the USA without registering as a foreign agent, formed an international prisoners' rights group after her release.
She interviewed Navalny in prison and called him an idiot who pisses off his cellmates (It was barracks style accommodations). She was certainly allowed to enter the prison, film, and post wherever she wanted.
