It isn't surprising to me when celebrities go crazy on social media when even an ounce of free speech exists. Think of how hard it can be for an average person to let insults or criticism roll off their backs. It takes a well formed sense of self to be at peace in the midst of that dynamic. Now think of a celebrity instead, someone who almost never hears anything but "you are so amazing and smart" or "wow, you are so fierce and brave" from the people around them their entire lives. They have lived for years inside an ass-kissing contest where they were the reward. In other words, nothing even close to reality.

Now take that same person and put them into an environment where normal people often act more blunt and critical then they even would if they were part of a face to face interaction with another person. Suddenly that celebrity is going to be thinking their entire sense of ego and self is falling apart and they will have zero tools in place to prevent that reality from tearing them apart emotionally. Normal people have no problems calling out celebrity BS and they are also not paid to pretend the BS doesn't exist like most of the media does. The reality that most celebrities can't handle, is that they were never nearly as important or special as they thought they were.

You may be interested to know that "Fuck" had it's Latin derivitives that were commonly spoken in Ancient Rome... right along with graffiti where massive phalluses dominated the walls.

In fact, sex-based profanity can be found in virtually every historical culture along with prudes -like yourself- who decried its use.

And as for Midler's "stature and background?" She's on-record for saying she grew up poor in "the sticks" outside Honolulu where the lesson of the barnyard wasn't wasted on her at a young age. In one of her raunchier routines, Midler even cackeled at how her 12-yr old "enormous tits" infuriated the flat-chested Japanese girls she went to school with... and that she'd taunt them by shoving her chest in their faces.

Midler has ALWAYS been a crude, frequently unfunny saloon singer who made it big after playing NYC's Gay Continental Bathhouse where Barry Manilow as her pianist considerably upgraded her act while demonstrating his own versatility among the well-heeled Queens at the bar.
