Within the last hour, many saw a significant BPD response to Sehome High School in Bellingham. This was the result of a call to our dispatch center about a potential active shooter inside the school. The school reacted quickly and appropriately out of an abundance of caution to keep students and teachers safe. BPD Patrol officers responded and were swiftly able to determine it was a hoax call made to Whatcom County 911. There was no active shooter. We will be investigating further to determine from where the call originated. It appears there were several calls made to other schools in multiple jurisdictions this morning, all reporting the same hoax. Multiple agencies are investigating further. spem successus alit |

All LE responded, including assistance from Upper Skagit Tribal, Skagit County Sheriff’s Office and Burlington PD. LE checked all buildings and learned this was unfounded. No threat was present at the school nor on campus. It now appears this may be a terrible prank or “swatting” attempt as Mount Vernon PD, and other schools out of Skagit County received a similar complaint around the same time. Regardless, expect to see a higher than normal Officer presence at SW schools today. If you see something suspicious, please notify 911. |

Police agencies across the region are responding to multiple calls at different locations of active shooters or threats to school districts and our children. This is not remotely funny and every report is being taken seriously with full police responses. So far, the threats have been unfounded. Please stay villigant. In Thurston County, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a threat at Rochester High School. In Tacoma, police responded to a possible shooting at Lincoln High School. Seattle Schools said they received a report of shots fired at Roosevelt High School in Ravenna. Bellingham police received a call of a shooting at Sehome High School, which was later determined to be a hoax call. In Marysville, police received a report on their nonemergency line of an active shooter at Marysville Getchell High School. |
