The president picks the vice and the house and Senate VOTE on the pick.

I also find it laughable people think a 8-10seat GOP majority makes it a red house. 20% of them in the Senate just supported gay marriage so it's safe to say the Dems will find 5 votes to flip in the house for whatever bullshit they want.

Beyond that there have been times the country operated without a VP in the white House because of gridlock in the Congress on VP votes. It's happened before.

As far as I am aware President would still appoint her own vp. In fact your 25th amendments says when there is a vacancy in in office of Vp, the president chooses a new one who must be approved by both houses of congress.

The VP would become President but the House Speaker does NOT become VP. The new President, the Ho in this case, would have the option of appointing a new VP who would have to be approved by the Congress.

But congress is controlled by the Republicans, so Kamala has to appoint a Republican VP.
