When I was young they used to say it was for school kid safety. So it would be light when they walked to school or walked to the bus stop.

I remember hanging out at the store in Dolan Springs, waiting to buy beer, but they were not on California time, so had to wait an extra hour before they unchained the coolers.

It amazes me how people can assume everyone and every place is the same. Not true. In Maine, we love our long evenings in summer and we earn those because the rest of the year we've adapted to very harsh weather conditions. It is also not safe for children to be in the dark, walking along icy roads or waiting for buses to go to school. When the "upper class" decides that their idea about control of time is the best one, it galls. In Maine, they love to discuss moving us to the Atlantic time zone because we are closer to maritime Canada. That screws with businesses in our region and along the East Coast of our own country, because commercial interests use the clock for everything. The sun doesn't care. Farmers don't care. Those who use computers, and clocks, and care about safety and recreation do care. There is nothing wrong with changing the clocks to allow for more productive daylight in summer.

I agree ... that way I can get an extra hour of work out of my employees and not have to PAY them for that extra hour!!
