Re: Are people oblivious to the collapse we are about to face?
I say they're oblivious. There is a long, multipage thread currently active, whein they discuss the "impending shortage of skilled workers".

They are oblivious to the fact that the out-of-work lists at all of the trade unions are the longest they've been in decades and getting longer. And yet they'd advise anyone to enter the trades.

Re: Are people oblivious to the collapse we are about to face?
For years I've prepared. Financially, security-related, health and food. Diversification. As much as possible. Because of this my family will survive if not thrive in the short-term. If the worst happens we are all in trouble. I have tried to prepare for that eventuality as well. As much as anyone can.

Still.

I am sad. I am sad for 95 percent of the rest who didn't or couldn't. I pray for them. I pray for a miracle and I am the least religious person I know.

May sanity and leadership lead us out of the dark times ahead. Though like most, i feel it is too late and only war will clean the slate.

Dont forget about the complete cut off of 'meds'- for heart patients, diabetics, cancer, psych, etc... 1 in 4 americans takes at least one prescription med daily. ALL that shit is made abroad. And 'regular' drug addicts - coffee, alcohol, sugar, street drugs...

There will be complete chaos within 72 hours.

people will not do well. especially 'sick'/dependent ones, which is the MAJORITY of Americans, and thus their families, neighbors, and those around them they will attempt to prey on.

How awesome would be to find a woman like this woman then force her to be a slave while also taking her preps? She could make you bread out of acorns. 99.9% of women are worthless but she is valuable enough to to give her slave rations while also deserving of a strong male protector. This is actually a huge compliment to this woman that I would keep her alive and protect her.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79062454

A woman like that is likely to bide her time and find a way to take you out. It just takes a monent in time. One second, 2 at the most. You may lock her up while you're sleeping but you will need eyes all around your head every moment you are in proximity to each other.I hope in such a scenario, someone does put you down, like a parasitic psychotic cockroach that you are, deserves.

I agree she is nuts and is a wild card but I would fuck the crazy out of her. If she took me out all she would have left is her acorn bread. She is smarter than that.

At this point, after 30 years of prepping, I've realized the only real prep worth while is turning to God & Jesus, and away from the devil.

The best you can hope for on day 1 of SHTF is a quick and easy death. Nice clean sniper head shot would be preferred. Ground zero of a nuke hit would be ok with me as well.

Spending the last days/weeks/months/years fending off hungry zombies only to then face a horrific death myself isn't where i'm at with this.

I don't think so. Most people I talk to are in shell shock with the price of everything.

My husband and I have cut back significantly. We have no choice. Home repairs popped up, our son needed some money to get by, etc. We ate out for the first time in months and only because we had a gift certificate - which didn't cover 2 burgers, fries and a beer. A splurge for us is to drive somewhere nice, go for a hike and have a picnic with sandwiches I've prepared from home. Even that is scaled back due to the cost of gas. We saved for retirement but the market is shite and who knows what it will look like next year.

Re: Are people oblivious to the collapse we are about to face?
My relatives are all planning vacations to expensive destinations and it’s like money is growing on trees for them. My in laws just got back from a month in Europe. They are retired. They spend like there is no tomorrow. Yes, they did well during their working years, but they spend as if nothing bad is happening in the economy. It’s truly bizarre as some seem to go about life as they always have. And one relative is buy their third vacation home.

Me? I’m just reading glp, eating beans and rice and trying not to spend anymore than I absolutely have to.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79248910

They are spending and having a good time since they have raised their families and now realize death is closer than ever. So you make peace with death and spend your money on things you like. What else you going to do? Sit in a corner and live in fear. That’s not a life. And you could prep and have to leave your home. So all that work and money is gone. Just have some basics and then go out and have some fun. It’s good for you.

nope, have plenty of money because i'm not fucking stupid with it. I'll buy up all yalls shit at pennies on the dollar like i did in 2008/09 and flip it the next time they turn on the printers. Just like I did this time.

Instead of wasting it I build business with it that continue to earn me cash flow. You should try it some time instead of expecting handouts like paychecks all the time.

All around, it seems people continue to spend spend spend as if everything is normal. Are people not running out of money? I sure as hell am, and have been pinching pennies for months. Is it just my perception, and I am only noticing the wealthy out there? The last week I have this impending sense of deep economic despair is about to strike, the likes of which has never been seen before. I do not think it will be comparable to anything we have seen in the past since society is now so dependent on the digital economy. When things collapse it will be epic and there will be no safety net as the vast majority of people are so disconnected from self sustainability. And, I do not think those who have skills and the resources to be self sustaining will fare that well as the hungry hordes will seek them out.

Well first of all I don't run around with a doom cloud over my head and I also realize the only way the economy gets better is if people spend some money and get that puppy rolling along.

That and I worked my ass off with college that I paid for and habits in my career of being the go-to guy who puts everything in all that I do to get where I am in life. Luckily have a spouse who is the exact same way, maybe not luck because I would never have married a loser.

It's easy to have a shit job and no ambition but who would want to live that way? I started with nothing my Dad was the hardest-working person I ever knew, he inspired me. He gave me absolutely nothing. I never asked for anything from him and never expected it. I built my own brand and I can buy anything I want now.

Re: Are people oblivious to the collapse we are about to face?
Wow, I read 13 pages of this thread and it was one hell of a ride, old school GLP type of thread.

What I can say is this:

If you don't understand the collapse has already started you are either very young or have zero grasp of history.

If you are making yourself rich by fleecing a large group of people for $100 for your YouTube videos you are exactly the type of POS that is bringing this system down and karma will find a way of getting you.

If you live on credit you are either stupid, greedy, or desperate at this point.

If tradespeople are charging an arm and leg it's because they can: tons of demand, very little supply.

Learn a trade and take advantage of this while driving the price down ever so slightly.

People are probably panic buying, enjoying the last ounce of normalcy knowing the entire world is about to burn in the back of their heads, I know I have been! Then again I'm also prepped and in good shape compared to 90%

I have been asking myself for 20 years now how so many Americans keep affording all these toys, goodies, and to get fat. America hasn't made a thing in 40 years or so!!! I'm slowly figuring out that it has something to do with the dollars global reserve status, we are basically raping the entire rest of the world.

In terms of what do you own or not own? That's an age old philosophical debate. Reality is what you can get away with.

What doesn't kill you just makes you stranger, stay thirsty my tards.

Well I live in the woods and hang out with one guys a painter, he makes good money. He saying that many people stopped spending and he can't find work. It's happening.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78003171

Well guys are charging 6k to paint exterior homes which is crazy..should be like 3 k
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72558093

Painting is one of the easiest home improvements people can do for themselves. Ever watch a group of painters? They take more breaks than I’ve ever seen. The only time I’d ever hire a painter is to do something that need a ladder for second level of an exterior home. All interior pain can be done yourselves. Stop being so lazy. A few cans of paint, the right tools can save you thousands. Plus these painters nowadays are sloppy af. My wife hired a painter once for a simple job and I had to redo what he fucked up. Don’t get me started. Painters way over charge. Learn to paint. Do it yourselves. Save money.
