I was in Andrew in 92 and that was a 200mph Hurricane. I was 8 and I still remember our roof flying off and seeing my neighbors home collpase. Alot of people I remember had a sort of shell shocked look about them. I see it here as well. Lots of people walking around just in a trance. They have all the tell tale signs of being traumatized. I'm here on behalf of Florida Emergency management clearing trees and debris from high value/critical infrastructure. While I enjoy the insane amounts of money I'm making, I am not ok seeing my fellow Floridians devastated. There still is murmurs of over 1k dead. The storm surge that hit here did waaay more damage than wind ever could. I saw a 6 story condo with the water line up to the 3rd story!! Thats gotta be 20-25ft. I have smelled death already a couple times but luckily it isn't where I'm working. I'm based here close to the Ft Meyers Auto Auction. I have about a month of work here at least and I was able to hire about another 50 people temporarily while we do storm cleanup. I'm used to my little 13 or so employees so managing and planning for 65 employees is really fucking tough. Anyone here on GLP that is close by and can afford it, please be a good human and load your car or truck with diapers, water, baby formula, and trail mix or food like that, batteries, or blankets and bring them down. These are the things I'm seeing needed most right now. My wife is currently in route from N. Florida where she loaded my 20ft enclosed trailer with 6k worth of supplies for the people (especially the children) in the area I'm working right now. So, this is an update from a GLP'er actually on the ground working the cleanup. Seriously, any Glp'er wanting some green karma in real life please bring some supplies down and just pull into a neighborhood and unload. Its that easy. I will update as I can but its time to get cranked up and go dump the trailers so we can get started at sunrise. I HATE seeing my beloved state so devastated. If anyone is going down there, where should they bring supplies to? I have a friend going with a trailer next week I know Gladiolus food pantry is taking and dsitributing supplies. Gladiolusfoodpantry.org Just one place I know of. Some places they're still not allowing people into until it is safe. I am sure there are many places. So glad she is doing that because in North East FL you can only buy 2 of water, bread and other items. |

But why don't people stock up? Don't tell me they are too poor. I've heard that line so many times, and the speakers are buying cigarettes and lottery tickets and beer and weed and tattoos and eating out. It's sad and tragic for so many. But geez people, wherever you are, get ready for emergencies. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 83751478 United States 10/03/2022 10:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Billions of Dollars going to Ukraine could have really helped Florida out in the time of Crisis, our tax dollars so many of us work for are not taking care of devastating situations like this in a timely manner. Yet not a peep on the media about comparing money being sent to Ukraine for an unsanctioned war in a country vs the need in Florida right now. :( This! Thank you! Congress "quietly" approved ANOTHER 12 BILLION for Ukraine the day Ian made landfall on Florida. It's clear the ONLY "aid" we should be doling out should be domestic. This should be a major campaign issue up until the election ( assuming we have an election)- do you support Florida, or money laundering in Ukraine? Every candidate should be forced to answer that on the record. American money and aid for Americans first! |

No diapers or formula? People have a baby and didn't stash up? No food? Are you serious? Quoting: Prayandprepare000 I applaud the mercy of the OP, I really do. I've heard that line so many times, and the speakers are buying cigarettes and lottery tickets and beer and weed and tattoos and eating out. It's sad and tragic for so many. But geez people, wherever you are, get ready for emergencies. It’s normalcy bias. I live in a community where people have the money to prepare. They buy water and food but they don’t think about how they can boil water or heat up their food. No one expects an outage longer than 3 days, 7 at the most. They run out of supplies, can’t boil water and didn’t get a water filter…and now many stores aren’t open. There are legitimate situations where you do prepare but you get storm damage or flooded and you have to leave, you can’t take much with you because your car is ruined. Many places were or are cash only and they didn’t have change at first, so be sure to have cash and to have a mix of smaller bills. Iansucks |

I went through Michael here in Panama City 4 years ago. The sheer magnitude of destruction and desperation is hard to explain. Now is not the time to scold ppl for not prepping. Unbelievable |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76140145 United States 10/03/2022 11:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Praying for all those service workers that don't have the $5 million dollar concrete house on Sanibel. Those people that make it possible for us that enjoy Florida when it is 0 degrees in February in Wisconsin. Always tip well! Makes me cry watching all the devastation - can only imagine how bad it is for so many. |
