Anonymous Coward User ID: 84145995 United States 09/29/2022 05:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Has anybody else wondered why USA has the most tornadoes or hurricanes .... they say its the wind systems that bring these kind of conditions, but who are we to know.. if we go back 100 years ago, how OFTEN did we experience such weather... is there any history of that... it just seems like its machines creating these storms Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83729623 I am in my early fifties from the New Orleans area and my grandparents talked about losing friends to hurricanes. One notable memory was they lost a percentage of their bridge card playing friends to a hurricane. They respected these storms. My parents had paper with a grid on them and the radio would tell you were to mark the grid, so you knew where the storm was, people tracked them and talked about storms by name and what it was like. I also remember going to the beach and large chunks of motels would be devastated and not rebuilt and they would say that was from storm so and so. I think the Gulf Coast has a long history and appreciation for these storms. . |

Oh, yes they do. You'll see. Massive Stack-n-Packs going up everywhere. |

When hurricanes get to a certain size and strength it is wise in most instances to bug out. I do realize though that there are many people who can't do this for one reason or another. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80992179 'Hundreds' is an extreme amount for a random storm, as an initial casualty projection. What are we really talking? and why? Those were verified. Hundreds more were killed that weren’t. Swept out to sea or loaded into refrigerator trucks. Many illegals. If you don't have a family member looking for you you're not countable. |

It goes back to the mid 1800's or so. As a matter of fact it wasn't until Hurricane Andrew that a major hurricane hit extremely built up areas in Florida. Florida was way past due at that point. It is such a visual, for me, to have seen all the posts of bays and the Gulf empty of water, and then to see where it all WENT. Terrifying for those people, really tragic. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67929869 Heard it might be 200 people (Sanibel and Captiva), but cannot confirm. A lot of people may have died in their cars, too. It's likely to be much higher but we will only be told maybe a dozen or so. Not the hundreds upon hundreds because the authorities told them not to try to evacuate. To just 'hunker' down which is stupid during a flood. So, yeah, the only reason they may have said that would be to prevent people drowning in their cars in gridlock. It's a terrible situation to be in. I saw images of boats up in trees so you know the water got very high. Must have been out of marine gas as well as regular gas. |

Avoid the traffic jams while you're at it. It looks like they can just plop them back in the water. A little spit and polish and voila. Heh. That’ll buff right out. |
