Great survival food - raw honey. If stored and maintained properly, it will stay good indefinitely. Tualang, Gelam, Kelulut are more nutritious than other honeys.

That's pretty cool. What kind of bees?

FYI - The Tualang & Gelam are the Giant Bee, Apis dorsata.
Kelulut is from the stingless bee, Trigona. All 3 are wild.

It's always a treat to see your posts, Wild Edibles.

We have amaranth growing wild here in Ohio, I see it in ditch lines and in the woods. When I was a kid we called this "coffee beans" and it was fun to slide your fingers up the seed stalks to pop them off. I never knew the proper name, or that it was edible. Thank you for the education and God bless.

Nature's candy! One year I got enough to make a couple of pies and I'm in Missouri. Can't seem to get them started on our property though, so it remains an occasional treat.

Re: Survival food,,, Amaranth
For those who garden I suggest growing Black Eyed Peas and Asian FootLong Beans. The reason for this is that they will not cross with any other plants, wild or gardened.

Although black eyed peas are actually a bean they will not cross with other garden beans of any sort.

Foot long beans are a completely different genus than other garden beans so they won't cross with anything other than other types of foot long beans.

Consequently you can save your seed every year without any worries.
