No such thing as either. When religion decided all people should have a gender based on genitals and only have sex with the other one, to keep the population controlled by the elders who became a priest class, people who didn’t conform became noticeable and different.

There are just people and a minority are attracted to the same gender. Some personalities confronted with a choice of only two gender roles prefer the other one. It’s not a biological defect or a psychological problem.

The construct of gender as a primary social identity worked really well to let the intelligent ones keep the group together, without unwise surges or collapsed in small group populations in very fragile ecosystems.

Very intelligent people and artists have always taken gender less seriously than others. It’s because intelligent people and artists look at the world through their own eyes and can distinguish nature from man-made.

Now some unintelligent are being herded to break down the man-made gender thing. It’s bad for those who get bamboozled into wrecking their bodies with hormones and surgeries. It’s rather horrible for them. BUT the stupid can be manipulated into anything.

So when the children decide they are gay or straight tell them there is no such thing but it’s nice that they have a romantic partner or friend.

If you want to prevent girls refusing to become women, stop mistreating women. When you make teo genders and make one far worse than the other naturally children will prefer to be the least worse one.

Sex and gender (which are equivalent, unless one is experiencing severe mental illness or trauma) are determined by nature -- not by religion.

Moreover, as a woman, I never once felt that being a girl was the "far worse" gender as a child (and I was raised as a devout Catholic, FFS), nor did I ever desire to "refuse" to become a woman.
