Quoting: Ohio chic So, today I sit and turn 55, my magical number to stop the rat race and just watch other rats race now but, life doesn’t always work out like ya expect (duh). I’m still raising my grandson (13) and literally taking care of my 75 year old dad like he’s a kid. I’m working harder now then ever. One positive is that I look younger than I really am. I get that alot and I’m staying physically fit and agile with the work I do. I live in the middle of a 10 acre, dense woods. So, I have brush and trees and log splitting etc. Are there any perks, discounts, benefit out in the world that you are able to tap into when you turn 55? Thanks ahead for any suggestions you give!!!!! Looks to me that you already have all of the important perks. Meaningful work to do, Family around you to love and love in return, Good health, country living, and the wisdom to understand how valuable everything you have is (even if it is hard and you can't just watch the rat race) Happy Birthday. |

Ever see a movie where the calendar pages start flying off the calendar? It's like that, only faster. The females don’t want to hear it. It’s like if they dont acknowledge their age , then its all just magically “not true”. they also think we will live into our 100s. no problem. they know. but they don’t want to acknowledge or talk about it. at all. |

I dive the great barrier reef and hike across Australia, just for fun. Last week I hiked the length of the Grand Canyon and next week I'm doing the Appalachian Trail. I'm 62 and am thinking about retiring in a few months. I have a cushy job and still party and don't exercise. I have good genes and am not on any medications and feel fine. I have some money stashed away and just want to travel and relax for the next 5-10 years or so and then cash in on this crazy matrix we live in. A friend of mine died at 93 and his words of wisdom still ring in my ears...."don't ever get old." |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60609341 I never Imagined my personal life could suck so bad . I miss the FUN of life ! Still raising kids . Wife in menopause , Broke as a joke due to Covid and stalled economy . I have the motivation of a turtle . My immediate family , siblings and cousins all suck ! So , i have no family other than wife and 3 kids . I had a nice run . my best years were late 20's to 40 . Child support ruined my life . And career . I dislike most woman other than my wife . Woman have effected my life more than any other influencer . I've taught my boys to never allow a woman to control them , manipulate them or play the welfare baby lottery with them . I found out , you never own anything on this rock that cannot be siezed or taken from you . I got a shitty hand in this life . It could be a lot worse . I know that . I had very SHITTY adopted parents and was orphaned at birth . That's just the way my shit started . Now I hate the public basically and despise the world i live in . Pissed of . At 55 i can tell you body aches most of the time and Zero patients for drama and assholes . At least you've lived. I'm in my 40s and have barely left my basement. No kids, no wife, I basically just eat junk food and play video games all day (and occasionally post on GLP). |

I get that alot and I’m staying physically fit and agile with the work I do. Quoting: Ohio chic That's better than the alternative but without any intent of being mean, that really only helps you attract a much older man. You shouldn't need that at this point in your life, it's time to grow. I live in the middle of a 10 acre, dense woods. So, I have brush and trees and log splitting etc. Quoting: Ohio chic In the spiritual traditions of India, "48-60 is the period one hands over the household responsibilities to the next generation and begins to withdraw from the affairs of this world." In India, this period could also involve moving to an "ashram in the forest". In America, we would call this moving to an "old folks home in the sticks". But that's become an humiliation, which is wrong. You've unknowingly begun to fit this pattern by your woodsy lifestyle and it's working. Are there any perks, discounts, benefit out in the world that you are able to tap into when you turn 55? Quoting: Ohio chic Most restaurants have a 55+ senior discount, and most insurance rates should start dropping. SS benefits start either at 62 or 65 but most advise starting at 65. Also, there are many new "55+" communities you could move to if you get tired of the woods. |
