Saudi Arabia to reopen consulate in Damascus

After playing a key role in the US-led war to topple the Syrian government, Saudi Arabia reversed course and will re-open its embassy in Damascus 12 years after the start of the war

Saudi Foreign Minister Bin Farhan had already stated on 18 February that there is a “growing consensus” in the Arab world for the reintegration of Syria into the regional fold.

The Saudi minister stressed that the isolation of Damascus is no longer feasible and that dialogue is needed “at some point” in order to, at the very least, address humanitarian issues such as refugee repatriation.
