I agree. I think the claim that companies “can’t find enough workers” is totally bullshit, at least for the tech industry. In fact, tech companies are implanting hiring freezes, postponing applications and laying people off/consolidating talent. America is fucked, I don’t really know what to do since I need work..

Local gigs. Create a website and post an ad on Craigslist.

Use your imagination and try to create your own business. It won't be easy, but it's possible and it's not like you have any other options.

Ive applied for jobs at Lowes, Home Depot, jobs that are traditionally first time jobs... NOTHING... over qualified, or not the right color...

Look on the bright side... you'll have freedom to things how you want to and you get to choose the jobs you want. At least you can have fun doing what you want to do, even if it doesn't pay much at first.

I started welding 1.5 years ago at age 51 after 18 years in the agriculture field,best decision I've made in a long time,I go to work,do my job and go home,no worries about anything job related at home anymore.i do avg 6-8 hrs ot every week,but that's better than 30-40 ot 7 month out of the year,I actually have a life now.Also pays not bad.

Its because of increasing reliability and automation, We should get used to it The good days for Tech are over, Tech should strategize to focus on General AI so it can totally replace all Tech, and techies can collect universal income and do local gigs. Have their own businesses, branding and website is a nice boost these days for business, even if your just running ads on Kijiji/Craigslist/Fiverr/Upwork/etc.

In Canada though, Nobody uses Craigslist as there is a dilution of tech people on Fiverr and upwork wiling to work for next to nothing from other countries remotely.

This is a problem that will only get worse in time,
I suggest getting SSA if you can, for a non existent mental disability if you have to, Its bullshit that people dont have universal income, so take what you need, if you need it.

Otherwise, I just want to say I am in tech and quit my IT manager job in 2014 because I thought I was worth more, They are paying 200k a year for my old job now to some young goon from India.

It is what it is, I have adjusted to living on nothing, Thankfully I have a nice guitar and Toyota land cruiser from when I was working.

I am grateful for what I have.

It sucks that there is so much problems with tech jobs.

I suggest checking with the resumes and csjob sub online. Lots of tech people are having problems it seems every hour there's someone posting about how they have applied for 100's of tech jobs with no reply.

I dont even bother because there is so many thirsty new people who need jobs, I can live off my benefits for now, As shitty as that is in reality.
I have enough to smoke weed almost everyday so I am happy.
I use a 10 year old MacBook Pro Retina which you can buy for a Few hundred dollars online, Its good enough for what I need. As is my old Toyota which I can't drive anyways until I pay fines. whatever, Trap me at my house see if I care.

I no longer use a smartphone, NO stress, No paying into overpriced Canadian carriers, no risk and no harm.
(I am not afraid of 5G just was a 2007-2015 smartphone junky and have had enough of them)

Same here. 20 Years experience - I should be in demand, But I've fallen off the professional course which I was once on. I need to get back to that path.
