That’s just from lots of people using it over vastly long periods of time. If it was water (like a creek) the damage would be right up to wall on those 90 degree turns. Matter of fact ANY liquid would go to the wall, hit it and then turn to run down the next set of steps. Rock is not so solid that it won’t move over time. Millions of people stepping on the rock will not only create wear spots but move the rock molecule by molecule. This creates the flowing effect seen in the videos. Ever seen a 100 year old glass window… over that relative short amount of time, in comparison to the steps, the glass moves and creates a wave like effect flowing down the glass pane.
