I just assumed flags would be flown at half-mast permanently in honor of the great George Floyd.

So the last one gives the president the power to do it.


It just seems odd to me that we're honoring the queen of a country that so oppressed us that we had to leave said country....

The Royal Family does a lot for the UK.
More than politicians do.

Most of the Royal Family has had some active military service.

In studies the Royal Family works out cheaper than having a President.
I think the average cost is about less than $2 per UK citizen per year.

The Queen or King is head of the armed forces, so it's good that they've experienced the reality of war.

Prince Harry was a front line Apache helicopter pilot in Afghanistan, now he does a lot of charity work for injured veterans.

Prince William was 3rd in line, so they were more cautious.
Instead he flew helicopters in the air force search and rescue, assisting coastguard and mountain rescue.
He went on to be an EMS pilot, in a flying ambulance.

The Royal Family is very good for diplomatic relations with other countries.

Tourism brings a lot of money into country, people like to visit Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

The King or Queen are politically neutral and is the publics protection against a crazy Government. They have the power to dissolve the Government and force an election.

In New Jersey the idiot Governor ordered the flags lowered when Whitney Houston died. Because she was from NJ. Apparently they're now being lowered for no particular reason.

Yes, everywhere has a crazy government at the moment.

The King or Queen is not allowed into the House Of Commons (Congress).
Even when the appointed person is sent into the House Of Commons, the door is slammed shut in their face.
Also the King and Queen cannot enter anywhere within the City Of London without a formal invitation.

Half staff flags used to be once or twice a year. Now, if a popular zoo animal dies, down they come. All flag poles should just be cut in half and be done with it!
