(OP) User ID: 80037766 United States 09/09/2022 02:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So Janky Joe ordered the flags at half mast....but-- [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] Under 4 U.S.C. § 7(m) and established traditions by Presidential proclamations, the flag of the United States is to be flown at half-staff on rare occasions, in the following circumstances:[108] For thirty days (or a month) after the death of a current or former president, or president-elect. For ten days after the death of a current vice president, current or retired chief justice, or current Speaker of the House of Representatives. From the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a secretary of an executive or military department, a former vice president or a former Speaker of the House, the President Pro Tempore of the Senate,[109] or the governor of a state, territory, or possession. On the day of death and the day after[110] for a Member of Congress. On Memorial Day until noon. Upon presidential proclamation, usually after the death of other notable figures or tragic events. So the last one gives the president the power to do it. It just seems odd to me that we're honoring the queen of a country that so oppressed us that we had to leave said country.... I mean, we don't have to be nasty about her, but this is the USA, not the UK....what did she ever do for the USA?.... You never change things by fighting the existing reality. I started getting my SS Jan of last year, and I'm not even yet ready to figure out why the queen has anything whatsoever to do with my SS payments....although I'm going to have to look into it sooner than later. We don't have a President. In studies the Royal Family works out cheaper than having a President. I think the average cost is about less than $2 per UK citizen per year. The Queen or King is head of the armed forces, so it's good that they've experienced the reality of war. Prince Harry was a front line Apache helicopter pilot in Afghanistan, now he does a lot of charity work for injured veterans. Prince William was 3rd in line, so they were more cautious. Instead he flew helicopters in the air force search and rescue, assisting coastguard and mountain rescue. He went on to be an EMS pilot, in a flying ambulance. The Royal Family is very good for diplomatic relations with other countries. Tourism brings a lot of money into country, people like to visit Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. The King or Queen are politically neutral and is the publics protection against a crazy Government. They have the power to dissolve the Government and force an election. |

Yes, everywhere has a crazy government at the moment. The King or Queen is not allowed into the House Of Commons (Congress). Even when the appointed person is sent into the House Of Commons, the door is slammed shut in their face. Also the King and Queen cannot enter anywhere within the City Of London without a formal invitation. |
