Use apple cider vinegar and water. I use a quarter teaspoon of Braggs apple cider vinegar and mix wit half teaspoon Crystal Geyser bottled water, mix in syringe and give orally. I do this twice a week and it help break up the crystals in the urine.

Re: Cat Friends. I need help
Colloidal Silver cures UTI in women and cats.

Replace fuzzie's water with colloidal silver.

Buying a colloidal silver generator and pure silver coils will cost around 2 hundred FRN's. You can buy pre-made colloidal silver at places like Vitamin Cottage, etc.

This WILL absolutely work.

Drinking too much will not hurt you or your cat.

I'm certainly not a doctor, but we have been using colloidal silver and homeopathics for three+ decades. A colloidal silver generator is a must have during these times. It helps and/or cures many things. Cures UTI's in days. Have even (personally) cured ringworm with it.

For lungs, put it in one of those things (can't think of the name right this second) that puts it into a mist that you inhale.

It can be used topically, but consuming it is necessary for for UTI's. Women should drink it for a week. Research on the web for more information. But if you want to help your furry, give him/her colloidal silver for a few days. Do not dilute it...dump out old water and only give them colloidal silver for a week. If it IS a UTI, this WILL fix it.

I never respond to threads, but since I have, I'll give one more INVALUABLE homeopathic tool: Hamamelis. It is a sublingual homeopathic that will give almost INSTANT RELIEF for hemorrhoids. Not related to your cat issue in any way...

But for those reading this, if you suffer from hemorrhoids, but Hamamelis at a vitamin/health food store. Follow instructions on label. You will be SHOCKED at how good this homeopathic works.

Okay, I won't be back to this thread, so do some research on what I have said, and then get that cat some colloidal silver!!! We have used it numerous times for the outside stray cats that we take care of. IT WORKS!!!

God Bless

Have you tried Colloidal Silver?

On and off. I haven't been consistent with it, no.

But I will now. I gave him some this morning (after it was suggested in this thread) and he immediately went in and used his litter box!!! Almost as if saying, "See, mom, if I use the litter box will you NOT shove stuff down my throat?!?!" LOL

He had been using the litter box right after his last vet stay (FIVE DAYS AND NIGHTS!!!) Imagine THAT bill.....

Anyway, as I said, he was in a crate and used the small box in there. Then, once the meds were all administered, I let him out into the general population, and all seemed well....he used the litter box(es) like normal.

THEN!!! Out of nowhere, on Saturday night (after seeming to be "normal" for 4 days after the crating), he just up and peed right on my bed!! Right in front of me!!! Then came back about half hour later and DID IT AGAIN!!!!!

Usually, when he pees where you can see him do it, he's trying to tell you his bladder hurts when he pees.

BUt he'd only been back from the vet for a WEEK!!!! I was so upset....plus that's the night the a/c quit working, so we were afraid of what that was going to cost, so I could not afford to take him back to the vet then.

So the poor guy went all week-end peeing wherever he wanted. Mostly, it was in a cardboard box that one of the others likes to sleep in. Then I replaced the box and he used the new one again - NOT wanting to go in the litter box.

So, I had to just let him go there and thinking to myself all the time (I KNOW he's getting crystals again, and now I can't do anything about it cause it's still 10 days till payday, He JUST was at the vet, the rent is due and now the a/c has to be repaired.....)

That is what prompted me to write this thread, and now I have to say I certainly feel much better about things!

I intend to look into ALL the things that were mentioned here. And again, I want to thank all my wonderful GLP friends who cared enough about my little guy to give me helpful suggestions.

We never intended to be "parents" to a literal HERD of cats, but here we are. I certainly can't turn them away. They'll have a good life, a happy life until in the natural time of things, they're time is up....P.S. There are only 5 (there were 6 but the oldest just passed). But 5 is seeming like a HERD at times! Luckily, they are only getting sick one at a time!

NO LITTER BOX

Get rotisserie chicken, it's cheaper than catfood, will provide a week of meals for about $1 per day. Or real meat and cook it yourself.

Re: Cat Friends. I need help
We only have one cat so I think whatever solution you decide will probably affect all of yours.

A few months back I researched cat food made in USA + fresh after our cat came down with a UTI. I’ve read that raw food is good for cats but I was concerned about missing nutrients that may be included in commercially prepared food.

I ran across a company based in USA called Smalls ( [link to www.smalls.com), (secure)] they only make cat food and everything is manufactured here, I believe in MN and WI. They do both fresh and freeze dried but it’s not cheap. I think if you want to give your cat quality food you will have to pay though. I started feeding it to our cat a couple months ago and have noticed a HUGE decrease in her water intake so the prior comments about that are true. Good luck with whatever you decide. You’ve gotten a lot of great advice here.

At least get rid of the litter box.
Install a doggie/kitty door and let cat go outside.

Maybe since you are a picky eater... pets reflect their owners.

Yea man what are you feeding him? Something has to be causing this.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84147711

Well, as strange as it sounds to write this, partly it's HIS OWN FAULT, as he WILL NOT eat canned food (which is supposedly better for them). Only dry food. SO twice now vets have said to give him this prescription (dry) food. OK, so I bought both types. He eats it, but it doesn't seem to be preventing the formation of the crystals. SO, idk.
 Quoting: DNoMo Michele B

I had similar issue. Dried food does cause much trouble, def no dried treats ever just don’t.

Fromm dried chicken food has been a life saver, my cats love it never had a recall and you can add a bit of warm water to it to make it more like canned if cat will allow.

I found a chicken pate called Wellness, I mix with warm water make it like a thick soup, they take that well now also.

A bit of organic coconut oil on their paws or where they lick on occasion is a natural powerful antibacterial, also a bit if apple cider vinegar in same spots. Especially if cat has active infection.

No uti for over a year has been the result.

He has to get wet food only, no more dry. I know you said you have other cats, but this is the only way to try to clear this up. When he gets hungry enough, he will eat the canned food.

Immediately stop ALL. DRY FOOD . Even the cheapest wet food is better than dry. RX food (wet ) will help. Especially if it’s a male cat as they’re more prone to crystals.

Veterinarians are mostly scam artist, and they usually don't know much about cats even though they talk like they do.

I would give the cat distilled water only as drinking water, and give the cat wet food only, stop giving the cat dry pellets.

And it's possible the cat is too far gone, and you may just have to let it pass away and get another cat.

But yeah stop spending money at the veterinarian, it's not worth it.

Re: Cat Friends. I need help
Where does he drink from? Is it clean? This is normally caused by male cats not drinking enough clean water.
We recently went through this and had his penis removed. Its extreme but they rarely block up again after this.
He nearly died overnight, one night fine, the next morning in terrible pain. Had to go in thru his stomach, open up his bladder and catheter from the inside, then cut off his penis and clean up the wound.
Luckily we have a vet locally that trains other vets so its pretty cheap, was 1000$, normally this would have been over 2500.
It should never happen again though since his prostrate is a much bigger hole then the tip of penis.

Re: Cat Friends. I need help
Fellow cat lovers, please help!

I have a fellow who suffers with UTI's. Or rather build-up on crystals in his bladder which precipitates frequent visits to the vet to "blast" the crystals and IV's and anti-biotics to get him on his paws again.

In the past 10 months, I guess there've been 4 or 5 visits to the vet....some of them for DAYS of overnight stays, etc.

Usually, he doesn't get the build-up of crystals before several months' time, like 8 months apart. Here lately, he's falling victim about every 6 WEEKS.

In all truth, I simply can't afford to continue at this pace, as each visit sets me back hundreds, IF NOT THOUSANDS of $$$. I know it's foolish. And probably stupid. But if you love your cat friends, you understand.

This post is a plea for help with this guy. If I can't find something to help prevent the build-up of crystals homeopathically, I'm afraid the next visit to the vet is going to be his last, as I simply cannot afford to keep this up.
 Quoting: DNoMo Michele B

Our kitty had this problem and had an emergency vet visit and an overnight at the regular vet. I sympathize, those visits cost us $1,500. They gave him painkillers, antibiotics, and "prazosin hydrochloride" 1 mg once a day for 5-7 days then as needed to help him pee (we didn't need to use many of them, I still have it in the medicine cabinet, that's the only reason I know the name). Plus they put him on the c/d food, both wet and dry. We did the wet food mainly, mostly because the other 3 cats we have didn't care for it, and he loved it. But after a while we discontinued it due to cost and he seemed to be fine. The vet told us, not to mix the regular dry food with the special food, because the main purpose of the special food was to make the cat thirsty, and by mixing it you dilute that effect. He hasn't had a problem since, knock on wood, though after that episode we're always on the watch for him struggling in the litter box. In his case, it seemed to be brought on by stress and poor grooming, he's a chubby guy and very long haired. I don't know if any of this helps - but I hope you have some success treating him! :)

Yeah, the $2500 is what they quoted us.

And quite frankly, he's "middle-aged." 8 years old.

Maybe if he was a younger cat, I might consider that, but I doubt I'll put him through that. I can only IMAGINE the immense amount of PAIN associated with that, and I don't think I want to put him through anymore.

As it is now, anytime I initiate any contact to come close to him, he shies AWAY (then runs away) from me! I've been having to give him so much meds....I don't want him to hate me!

I'd rather end his suffering.

We had to go ALL LAST WEEK-END with a broken air conditioner because he'd just been to the vet and I was tapped out when our air conditioner just quit working and I'd just paid the rent after the vet bill.

So, as I say, unless some of my favorite cat friends (you know who you are!) can give me some expert advice on what might help this poor guy out without costing me an arm and a leg, I'm afraid his days are now numbered. I suspect he's ALREADY blocking up (in 2 weeks' time), as he's doing all the suspect behavior he does when he gets them....hiding, peeing all over the place (instead of cat box), etc.

Please help if you can.
Any advice will be considered. Just to add: he's already been put on prescription food (c/d didn't work, now on Canin) - and I HATE them both, but he seems to like the Canin, although it doesn't seem to be helping either.

But I WILL NOT SUFFER FOOLS. If you come onto my thread and start giving me "cat soup recipes" and other such foolishness, YOU WILL BE GONE. No warnings. I am in no mood for that stupidity.

I'm just trying to find a way to save my precious boy's life. He's a very sweet, kind, loving fur kitty. But ultimately, he's "just a cat," and I will do what I need to rather than have him continuously suffer with this if need be.

P.S. We've been told about the "surgery" that should help, but I'm not sure I want to spend yet ANOTHER $2k for that....

Animal doctors are profiteers of misery and suffering. Abandon all protocols of veterinary "aid". Feed the kot fresh clean food (home cooked chicken for ex.) and water. Let nature fix the rest.

putin-thiss

Stay away from vets except for trauma situations.
If there is an infection give colloidal silver. If there are crystals currently you can mix ascorbic acid into the wet food to help break them down and boost the immune system. I don't remember the dosage so you need to research. Feed a quality(no "natural flavors", non-gmo, etc.) canned food if you can't do the homemade. I've had two out of six boys who were very prone to crystals and the key was dry food must have a guaranteed analysis of <.1mg magnesium and <7% ash for protein under 40%. Wet food <.03magnesium, <2.25 ash for protein 10%. Now the "new science" will say this is old hooey but it's worked for all my cats. NO crystals or UTIs. If a food does not list these ON THE LABEL, pass it up. That's my rule of thumb for a quality food. And the more you spend on the food – you won't have vet bills.

A regular vet will offer you expensive treatments for the cat, but will truely not know much and will miss a lot and make mistakes.
