US faces biggest strike EVER as 350,000 UPS workers demand better conditions - even though package delivery drivers already earn up to $95,000
UPS' contract is set to expire on July 31, 2023, and 350,000 of its 534,000 employees are expected to go on strike to demand better conditions

They are demanding air conditioning in the back of trucks, better pay packages, and benefits

UPS drivers already make around $95,000 yearly on average and receive an additional $50,000 in benefits

However, the median salary for the company is around $44,000, which is still significantly higher than its competitors, Amazon and FedEx

UPS handles 21.5million packages a day and - the only carrier with the capacity to do so - and controls about six percent of the nation's GDP

If the workers go on strike, it will be the first time the company has since 1997

Mid 2023 ??? Providing the shit hasn't splattered the fan by then and inflation isn't so out of control that a loaf of bread is 100 dollars then we'll see where this goes. People should be more worried abou getting through the next few months.

Additionally if fast food workers are making 22 to 25 dollars an hour in Ca then I think UPS drivers should be making 75 dollars an hour.

They should fire their overpaid unqualified asses and replace them with workers who are content with salaries that they actually deserve. Frankly, a UPS worker earning $95,000 is as outrageous as public school teachers earning what they do. Ridiculous!

UPS delivery drivers make about 35 to 40k/yr.

The OTR drivers make about 70k..

I'm sure some make considerably more in places like San francisco where 100k/yr can get you a studio apartment.

It's all realitive.

Goin on strike in this economy would be a very stupid move as UPS would easily be able to replace the workers in short order.

Besides, 95K for driving a delivery truck is pretty darn good money.

From what the UPS drivers told me their pay for drivers is as follows. Most drivers with 10 years experience are making 30 an hour or more. They are paid for 8 hours and any time past that is overtime. Even if its a Monday work 9 hours you get an hour of overtime. All the drivers use to be package handlers loading the trucks. That is the only way via the union to become a driver. A light day is around 100 stops a day. During Christmas rush it is normal to run 200+ packages a day. Most of them were making $120k+ a year. They earn it because they have to hurry or risk losing their jobs.
The loaders are not union until I think it was 3 years? Kinda fuzzy on that. Almost all of them had stories of being so tried they would fall asleep behind the wheel on the way home.
A good side hussle for anyone interested is they hire people with vans and such to help deliver overflow for about $150 a day.
I got all this intel from being a shuttle driver for them. The local UPS yard is to small during Christmas rush so they hire companies to shuttle them from a parking lot to the warehouse and back.

I have an immediate family member who drives the Big Brown Truck and the starting pay is $15 an hour and part time. It can take years to become full time. They have good benefits for part timers but like I said, it can take years to become full time. Also, my family member has heard ZERO about any possible strike.

My Son is a UPS driver and much you say is true. Union contractual supplememnts differ regionally so some things differ depending on where you work out of. He tells me that you do not need to work there 3 years to be in the union. Again that may differ depending on location but he said in his exp as long as a belt loader works a continous 30 days in a 90 day period they join the union. Some exceptions are also made that allow some centers to hire drivers right off the street. Lastly yes he is very tired from the hard work and long days...especially around Xmas where we rarely see him for the whole month of December.
