Low Carb Made Easy by John Ratcliffe

You can have a carbohydrate meal or a protein/fats meal
BUT YOU MUST NEVER MIX CARBS WITH FATS.

This is because carbohydrates trigger the release of insulin.
Insulin is the agent responsible for converting sugar in the blood into body fat.

If you eat a protein/ fat meal with zero carbohydrates then Insulin will not be released and none of the fat in that meal will be converted into body fat.

If you eat a carbohydrate meal with zero fat then the Insulin released will only convert the excess sugars from the carbs into body fat.

The key is knowing which carbohydrates trigger insulin release which means you need to understand the glycemic index.
He says you learn this with time meaning eventually it is possible to mix carbohydrates with fats to a limited degree.
Of course spices herbs etc are allowed so the meals are tasty.
And you get to eat as much butter fat and bacon as you like.
Definitely a win-win.

I think the key is that certain processed foods contain starches with a very high GI which almost immediately trigger insulin release.
I'm thinking possibly maltodextrin is one.
Basically the finer something is ground the higher the GI.

Not a bad idea. Also you can just cut carbs down to a few health carbs.

Low carb is the best. Carbs should be whole grains. Don’t eat anything in a box or bag with more than a couple ingredients. Low salt. All dairy should be low fat. Minimal cheese.

So basically just eat clean healthy protein raised without hormones and pesticides, grass fed beef, turkey, chicken, pork, eggs. Use olive oil.

Lots of fresh or frozen vegetables without butter and salt. Limit fruit to low sugar stuff if possible.

NO sugar, white bread, pasta, HF corn syrup, no candy, no junk food, no fried food. No chips, sugar cereal, etc. NO processed meats like salami, bacon
This is what makes them all so fat. Processed garbage full of ingredients you can’t pronounce.

There's another interesting book
Eat Right For Your Type
which proposes that your ideal diet is linked to your blood type.

eg type O should eat a lot of meat whereas type A should be predominantly vegetarian because they arrived much more recently about 10,000 years ago when agriculture became prolific.

So if true you cannot prescribe rules that suit everyone. This would suggest there are at least 4 "ideal diets".

Regardless your blood type I assume that the same holds true for all
DO NOT MIX CARBS AND FAT IF YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT.

Obviously it's quite difficult because virtually everything nowadays contains some sugar which is why you have to check the ingredients list.

Steamed vegetables? You need fat for anything to have flavor.

How can you eat breakfast without toast fucking torture. Or here is a plan exercise and watch your calories intermittent fast which is pretty easy to do.

Ratcliffe says fruit is best eaten on its own as a carb meal because of the effect on the other foods in the stomach if eaten in conjunction.
It tends to turn an acid environment alkaline and vice versa causing digestion problems. So best eaten on its own.

That's called carb cycling. It works. But it's hard. Harder than plain keto.

But you can pig out on fruit, which you can't on keto. So. Probably going to switch to it in a few weeks. (No dieting during summer farm time.)

Still fucking sucks, carbs with no fat wtf is that boiled potatoes instead of fries or oven baked potatoes?

Steamed vegetables? You need fat for anything to have flavor.

How can you eat breakfast without toast fucking torture. Or here is a plan exercise and watch your calories intermittent fast which is pretty easy to do.

I agree it's a bit unnatural but it definitely works.

What I suspect may be true is that you can mix carbs with fat if you know which carbs trigger the Insulin release.
This probably only comes with experience and a thorough understanding of the subject.

There's a section at the end on easing up but his argument is you need to experience the dramatic weight loss this creates first then fine-tune your diet to suit you.

Like I said I suspect it may be the starches with a very high GI added to processed food that makes them particularly fattening.

This could be stuff like maltodextrin and modified maize starch. Cornflower is also very high GI, ADD but nothing like as dangerous as the maltodextrin and MMS.

Beer is very fattening because of the maltose but red wine is allowed once you have got your weight under control.

If you are following a carb meal with another carb meal a time window is not necessary
Same with 2 protein meals.

Time window only necessary when switching between carb and fat.

Yup. That diet is almost impossible for most people. Do some intermittent fasting and eat smaller meals. Take a vitamin mineral supplement. Go for walks. Life shouldn’t be so complicated.
