Of course not. On the Kardashev Scale they would be a type II civilization. That's tens to hundreds of thousands of years away. Assuming we continue to advance and not kill each other.

Re: We will never see Star Trek in our life time
One would think the progression of technology leads to a Star Trek existence. Which would be awesome.

But in reality, the progression of technology leads to a completely dystopian totalitarian society, that forces unspeakable evil onto the masses. Such as Hunger Games, or Divergent.

Centuries ago, religious leaders suppressed the advancement of technology. Maybe for good reason?

Maybe because a few of them (such as John the Apostle) were shown visions of the future that horrified them, full of abject inescapable evil made possible by high technology.

"Space may be the final frontier but it's made in a Hollywood basement"

You were brainwashed by shows like Star Trek. The entire point of it was to make you believe in a fictional "outer space" to cement the globe lie. They successfully created a cult of losers who fantasize about this bullshit

Earth is flat.

Re: We will never see Star Trek in our life time
Yes, it is the most interesting of asks yes? Why are we not? Will I ever see it?

My life I search this answer, and I think I found the best way to understand. it as reaching for the future means accepting the future reaching back, then to see the changes all I have to do is change my perceptions. and open my mind.

I did vis a youtube site Cosmic Agency, [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] and finding that it is a first contact senario with another star system being polite because they look like us and the others who do not look like us sort of barged in, a sort of get out of the way thing, and the human first contact with cousins, we find that first contact is not easy at all. what if the planet is locked into a system built by the other non human celestials to distract. because in scope, its a sort of battlestar galactica story in depth, earth being the missing part of their planet group, and they come to help but discover we are not advanced in the ways to understand. plus we have been interfeired with.

the most interresting part is that so advanced they are, our cousins from how they grew, we are like country hicks to their level of tech. our star trek has on ship a holo deck for recreation, where our cousins have that in each room. imagine that, having a personal room program for when you knock off your rostered duty. a copy of home on the ship, and the computer reads your mind for the ideas, it can decifer your thoughts of leasure from thoughts of say what do I want to eat later.

What I love about the whole thing, is they are parked in orbit, on a ship like the galactica, their world ration of men to female is their are far more women and the roles are more merrit and self choise base, so they are the Amazon girls, female vikings who look young but have great age lengths, and their travel is not warp through space, they designed their science to match frequency and that gets them point to point location to location and the time factor evens out due to frequency navigation you get to where you dialed in and not arrive then go searching. I loved how they told that crop circles are markers when transitioning from time to time. if your circle pattern is exact then your back.

Thats why they say our science fiction is even centuries behindm but they realy enjoy it and our music.

Rockefeller was told about a method to control the world from a single terminal. Technology in last 100years has been purposed to that. Tech doesn't have to be about power but in this realm it is. I don't think nichola Tesla types were coincidental, they were born at a certain time to greatly accelerate tech expressly for so called endtimes.

The problem here is only a small number of population is enlightened, most are back ground characters.

It's been a little over 100 years since man accomplished a pretty pathetic first flight. We now build airplanes that are longer than the first flight was. Give it time.

OK maybe I am sentimental but the promised future when I was young (around 1985) has not exactly turned out as promised.

Flying cars?
Food replicators?
Colonizing the Moon... Mars?

All I see is division, war and manipulation. Petty crap.

We could not be further apart as a species.

Dunno why I even bother, everyone is so on edge these days.

It's 2022 for crying out loud.

"All I wanted was Star Trek" I'll put that on my tombstone.

Must be some weird ass simulation we are in with moderated limits.

Nobody has that kind of time. Also a lot of that Star Trek technology completely defies known physics. We might be able to innovate, but we cannot defy physical laws.

Re: We will never see Star Trek in our life time
In the TOS and TNG canon, there was a Eugenics War that then lead to a nuclear World War III. Hundreds of millions died. The new world civilization was born from that cataclysm.

The Eugenics War was said to be in the 1990's, so they blew that prediction. But they said the nukes started flying in 2026.

So who knows? Maybe you will live to see the start of the Star Trek future.

the infrastructure for the Colonization of the Moon starts tomorrow, weather pending.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72517161

The Moon is a dangerous place. So is Mars. No atmospheric /electromagnetic field to protect from radiation.

We must solve the radiation issue first.

Shields up.
 Quoting: Emergency Patriot Hologram

Triple hulls, rf generators and plasma. The hull voids are filled with noble gases, energized and a plasma develops. The plasma can be manipulated to create a magnetic field to deflect particles and to redirect them. The other hull voids could contain boron materials to absorb neutrons. The central core of the space craft or habitat has a large coil that is an electromagnet as a secondary to the plasma shielding. Consider the habitat to utilize some form of nuclear power to provide for the plasma generators and the electromagnet.
