We have an evaporative cooler for the house, but it becomes useless when it gets over 90. It just blows hot, humid air. My wife is hanging out in the bedroom where we have a small AC unit. What you want is to trap the low temps in some water in good plastic 60gal barells out of all light or warmth like all day shaded spot up here that always has moss all year round. Chill them down. The cool side of the hill so to speak. Then get that cold water into your air. Get some rainbird misters the ones with the brass they create ten degree lessening when combined with proper fan. Trap the cold air and water and air early in the day. Build up supplies of those overnight. Know your water temps. BTW I am shitty at all of this :) I could easily run a splitter off my hose, and then a rainbird 1/4 inch to a mister and have that on me here inside, and it would make nothing wet really, and the pressure is controlled by having a valve on the hose. Misted air and shade you're talkin twenty degree drop. |

Misted air and shade you're talkin twenty degree drop. Yeah, I have a spot on the north side of the house that is always shady. Still hot, though. I have used misters in the past, but they always get plugged up (calcified, maybe). I have tried soaking them in vinegar without much improvement. The evap cooler needs new pads, too. They are pretty well plugged up. It is one of the 'low profile' versions. new pads are about $120. I've been married so long, I don't even look both ways when I cross the street. |
