The fast-food council would be able to raise minimum wage up to $22 at McDonald's and other chains. Joe Erlinger said increasing wages is "not bad," but warned it could increase the cost of fast-food. In a letter published on Wednesday, Joe Erlinger, the president of McDonald's US, said California's bill to set up a 10-person fast food council is "lopsided, hypocritical and ill-considered," and "hurts everyone." The reality is that the Minimum Wage has fallen further and further behind where it should be, if one looks at what it was in 1969 (when I was a kid) and adjust it for inflation so I have mixed feelings on this. Some businesses will be badly hit and be forced to close ... but then again small businesses did JUST FINE back in 1969 when adjusted to the Cost of Living they were paying about this $22/hr level. (when I was working after school for minimum wage)
