Multiple people killed after truck runs off the road in Nieuw-Beijerland

A lorry drove off a dike early Saturday evening in Nieuw-Beijerland, Zuid-Holland, killing multiple people and injuring many others, police said. Several victims were transported to hospital for treatment.

The accident happened on the Zuidzijdsedijk. There was a neighborhood party going on at that time, said an ANP photographer present at the scene.

Dispatchers sent many paramedics to the scene using ambulances and trauma helicopters. The police said they are "working with a lot of emergency workers on the incident.”

The investigation into the cause of the incident is underway, police said. Rescue workers were still busy at the location at 8 p.m.
