Sony will be INCREASING the price of their PlayStation 5, 2 years after its release
In a very interesting move, Sony is increasing the cost of the ps5 in all markets except the United States (for now).

They say the economic environment has made them have to reconsider what they charge. Demand is way higher than supply already.

This is huge in the history of electronics and videogames.

Might not seem like that big of a deal, but it is a bit of a canary in a coal mine.

This was very interesting to me...

I bought 5 last year at 2500, sold them for 4000! Don't tell the IRS! Haha...

I got to keep one for free essentially and still made money and people were willing to buy.

At the end of the day, this isn't going to change the world or anything, but it's absolutely huge in the history of gaming and pricing of products in general.

You can also look at this as a DOUBLE price increase as the general pattern is a price cut right around this time in a gaming device life cycle.

So it's about $100-150 more than it might have been at this time without the same economic environment.

They might even have already prepped a new model by now in the past (for release next year essentially).

It's very very weird for sure.

Hilariously enough it's already obsolete and that's pretty sad. Moore's law has gone crazy.

My PC I built recently for not much more can do about 4x as much, plus productivity as a PC. I COULD mine crypto (I won't).

It's absolutely a big deal, sign of the times.

It's unprecedented in the lifecycle of a gaming platform.

When is the last time you remember prices for products going up years after their release?

I was born in 92 and can't remember anything like this.

Maybe in the 70s?

I won't call myself a "gamer" but I love some games. They have been a huge impact in my life from a storytelling and problem solving perspective. But I love the outdoors. I love to touch grass lol. I do many mile hikes and weeks or months on end outdoor adventures.

That being said I put 300 hours into Elden Ring this year haha it was up there with the best books I've ever read as one of those experiences that I had with many other people via multiplayer.

But like I also described BFD the PC I just made is way more powerful. That didn't used to be the case either, not to this extent at least. I think we're hitting a wall so to speak.

I went back to PC games. Consoles are like game prison.

Pretty much lol

PC I can play every single game I would want to that is "exclusive" to Xbox and apparently Sony is going to be creating a PlayStation PC division so they will essentially have their own steam client. They've already released their biggest first party PS4 games and a couple ps5 games on PC through steam.

Consoles ARE going bye bye, unless Nintendo stays in.

Nintendo is like this genius company that understands as long as they use their characters, people will buy anything and more than once per household lol

Super interesting.

Nintendo is fucking invincible!

And they thus far have not conformed to the woke mob so more power to them. They made a handheld hybrid when people said handhelds were dead and it's catching up to PS2 for sales.

Finally splurged on an OLED Switch.

There's some great games you just can't play anywhere else.
