It was popularized in the 70's by Hal Lindsey's writings (The Late Great Planet Earth, etc.) but the concept originated back in 1840 by John Darby, an Anglo-Irish Bible teacher.

That is a dishonest answer because you are treating what the Bible says as if it was of no account. The Rapture was first taught to us at the times when the prophets who wrote about it were alive.

Rev 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience,
I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Rev 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
I think that by now we can all see that the time of the Great Tribulation/Jacob's Troubles is nearly upon us. If you will not heed the clear words of the Bible, then when the trumpet sounds you will be left behind to be slaughtered in the billions along with all the others who rejected the Lord. With perhaps a small (not guaranteed) chance of becoming a Tribulation Saint.
I personally deserve to go to hell just as much as any of you do. The difference is that like all other Christians I have asked Jesus Christ to forgive me of my sins and come into my heart.
Remember that the Rapture can happen at any moment, in the twinkling of an eye. You have still been blessed with a little time, so if you have not made your self right with the Lord, turn to Him now with all your heart and He will be quick to hear you. But don't take all day about it, you could be hit by a bus tomorrow and then where would you be?

There is a really good movie called Before the Wrath that lays out the prophecies of Revelation, the words of Christ, the parallels between his parables describing the traditional Galilean wedding and the final rapture. Your reference to the circumstances of Lot as Scriptural evidence for the harpazo in Revelation is one I didn't see before. God always works in patterns.
