Until recently I barely watched TV or films at all. However about 6 months ago my friend put me on to "Talking Pictures" TV on Freeview (UK)

This shows loads of old films (quite a lot of old British films) and quite frankly they wipe the floor with the crap that passes for "entertainment" these days. There are actual plots, excellent character acting, splendid humour and no reliance whatsoever on bloody special effects.

Since then I've taken to watching the odd film whilst I'm having my tea and there are some absolutely cracking old films on there.

Recently I watched "Alive And Kicking" a film about three old ladies who escape from their nursing home and go to live on an island off the Irish coast where they end up selling sweaters to a fashion house in London.

Bloody marvellous ! And showed how piss poor modern script writing and acting is in comparison.

Modern cinema is bollocks, focus group driven shite with a total focus on making money.

The Man in the High Castle. Related to WWII but only if the Allies had lost. It's a bit intense but there are some really good plot twists!



I enjoyed Downtown Abbey and Mr. Selfridge as well. Have you ever watched The Paradise?

MINDER

It’s a comedy / drama series set in London late 70’s / Early 80’s about a dodgy businessman and his long-suffering ex con bodyguard.

The network wants Beale immediately fired, but Schumacher gives him a chance to apologize on the air. What he doesn't count on is Beale using this camera time to go off on another tirade that to everyone's surprise resonates with the audience.
