I've seen where sometimes the benches are changed out to a type that prevents anyone from sleeping lengthwise on them. That's a good idea.

If the question is for me, an everyday joe, I don't do anything. Just let them sleep.

I say open up City Hall for the homeless to sleep overnight on the floors then boot them out just before the city councillors and mayor and staff show up in the morning.
Makes perfect sense. No need to build more free housing at the tax payers expense, just let them use the facilities over night. Theres public washrooms there plus city peace officer guards can watch the overnight.

No you do not. The parks are for kids to play in or people to walk in,have picnics,exercise,or hold celebrations.

Police in most small towns simply will not let children be in danger from the likely drug use and unknown persons hanging around a park.

If they try to stay they likely end up in jail. Usually they are given options though. Free everything unlikely. Help finding a job they can do probably. Repeat known vagrant with multiple offenses is either looking at long term jail or a voluntary relocation to a homeless shelter in one of the above said gigantic shit holes. They will not be welcome in most small towns,especially if they are caught with drugs.

if it were me, i would help them i would get them a blanket if it was cold. if they want a place to stay, i would try and find them a shelter. if they need any money, i would give them some. i am definitely a giver.

I would beat the fuggers face in and leave him in the road, that way a good Samaritan would pity him and take him to an inn to be fed and clothed.

Substance abuse and addiction is just one more symptom of a very sick society.

Illness moves from the surface of our body deeper the more ill we become. Mental illness is the most sick an individual can be and the most difficult to cure. Native American culture called this deepest sickness 'the Windigo' and gave it almost a deity status.

Look at rats. Rats with friends and healthy food and exercise will still choose to seek out substances recreationally, but Rats in isolation or with little to no exercise/mental stimulation will choose the substance repeatedly until they become addicted.

That said, when I see homeless people sleeping on a bench, especially if it someone I know, I will leave a box of donuts or slip a 5-10 dollar gift card for a coffee shop into their hand or pocket.

And yes, the reasons people become homeless are many. Lots of people are only 1 - 2 months rent away from being homeless themselves.

I don't have answers, but I do have some compassion and try to help where I can.

If you live in a cold climate, another helpful thing you can do is buy up the gloves when they are on sale at the end of the season and then hand them out the following winter.
