So the word has come down that there will be a strike but it will only last a day or 2 because congress will step in and do something about it.

Ok not a surprise about that but what I'm hearing is a lot of guys aren't coming back if their demands aren't met.

They've lined up other job opportunities to take. 15 guys have already walked off up north, all on the same day, with no plans on returning.

That particular yard usually has 30 trains or more go through it a day now it is so backed up they can't even move one. Been like that a week now.

There was a meeting held to see if 120 yard masters and train masters would be able to handle the work load of moving the trains during the strike, not going to happen. Apparently the track guys and everyone is going on strike as well.

There won't be anyone to inspect the track or throw the switches or fill the engines with gas etc.

Be prepared. Even if the strike doesn't last a long time a bunch of guys might not be coming back to move those trains.

Ima fuckin lay it out. All you stupid fucks blaming your union for this… guess what you’re a idiot. They brought a lot more to the table to fight for you. The carriers wanted you to suffer. Union said no we want a PEB so that maybe we can have a chance at bettering our union employees.

PEB fucked us. Not the union. They sided mainly with the company. Again not the unions fault. I will tel you what I’m hearing from gcs and other lcs. They do not like this and are awaiting further negotiation with the carriers. Again the unions are fighting for you.

We can have this shoved down our throat with congress. Or it could be better. Or it could def be worse. That isn’t up to the union. That’s the government.

You want to strike? Guess what so do most of if not all your union reps and leaders. We have to abide by the RLA. Wanna know why? If we don’t we go to jail. Not just union leaders or reps. But YOU YES YOU CAN TO. If congress forces us to work and you don’t.. you can be held in contempt and in violation of a congressional order. You can be sued personally by the railroad for lost income as can your union and reps and leaders.

This will definitely halt AMTRAK as well, if it happens. The freight lines own all the track that AMTRAK runs on.

The Amtrak trains are dispatched by the freight dispatchers.

Also if there is any problem with an Amtrak train, freight guys come with a freight engine.

I don't think they would run Amtrak trains if no one could come with an engine to move a stuck Amtrak train.

Much less run a train over the line with no one to dispatch it!

You are sort of correct, but the issue here is workers are just walking off as in ignoring the consequences of actions and their union guidance. Honestly I applaud them for doing so, if your valuable its pretty easy to get a job these days so why be held hostage or do something where you do not feel appreciated.

Legality will never play into this because the government is well aware if they start enforcing the no walkout clause and jailing people it could snowball quickly.
