I live 20 miles from there. While it's pretty like the previous poster said it's cold and wet.

Chicagoland. I live with my brother. I have to the end of the year. I had to come live with him when I lost my job in Palo Alto, California. I've saved some money so I should be alright for awhile. I also phoned the Eugene Mission. I may have to stay there for awhile. I can't stand Chicagoland especially after experiencing two Winters. I'll do anything to get out of here so that's why I'm opting for the Mission.

compared to chicago I suppose oregon isn't so bad.

do some research on homeless in eugene. i'll bet there ain't no room at the mission either, especially in winter.

Southern Oregon would be a better choice, but depends on your work.

Lots of homeless come to Eugene. It's attractive for all they do. Housing sucks around here though. You'll pay up the ass for a cheap one-room apartment and houses are 2k and above. Best if you bring an RV as there are lots of areas where they are allowed to park.

Move to a smaller town though, you'll find it to be much less liberal than the larger cities. It will be a little harder to get started but it's worth the trouble. In a few months places like Eugene will be hell on Earth.

Life long Oregonian here. Current towns population is under 100.

If you have "saved up a lot of money and should be okay" why go a "mission". First off ,they won't take you, because that is for the destitute.

If you have money, go to another state, like Tornado Alley and rent a cheapo house. Just don't have too many belongings, they'll go POOF! in the wind!

Live in Springfield, but even better, move to a smaller town outside the city. Eugene area is filled with homeless and self righteous hippies. Not somewhere you want to be.

Downtown Eugene used to be nice.
Now all over town are homeless encampments of wooks--- shiftless, stinky, patchouli smelling vagrants by choice that set up their little tent complexes blocking the sidewalks. They harass you when you walk by for money, and even suggest if you say you don't have any to accompany you to the ATM or 7-11 to get some.

Best parts are games at Autzen Stadium, fast drives to the coast or Bend/Sunriver, the surrounding wine country and craft breweries like Ninkasi, Hop Valley, etc. Not enough to move there.

Eugene Skinner, a tough frontiersman they named the town after, is twisting in his grave up the hill from the UO.

I moved to Eugene 3 years ago, lots of homeless, lots of theft, people running in front of your car 'cause they stoned, COVID rules were/are still as tight as a ducks ass in some places. I hear Bend is nice. Good luck!
