however i went with my dad to the military base grocery store and they have organic bananas that (mostly) ripe. Bananas are unique the way to store and use the ethylene gas (when nobody 18-20 now can legit pass high school)

Even when ripe they don’t have any banana taste like they used to. Something changed.

Long story short, kill the fruit flies with mini kitchen roll wet balls. Fun for all the family.

I'm noticing it's not just bananas anymore but other fruit as well. But yeah bananas suck immensely anymore.

i buy organic bananas never more than a couple of days from being ripe.

i eat them way before they spoil....i only get about 6-8 at one time

To ripen bananas quicker, store them in a dark, cool pantry/cupboard.... they will ripen quicker that way and also the moisture kept in them from the cooler temps helps keep that sweeter taste in them....

The ones we know and like are extinct. The ones now are all clones, same as before. They don't have much time before some disease fruitflies carry will infect every one and this strain will be extinct too.

Don't be alarmed, there is a smaller/harder/bit more bitter tasting cousin of the banana and we will all get clones of it next year.

I used to eat onw banana daily until 2 months ago. You have to change things up. I read some Japanese lady lived well past 100 years and ate eggs, tomatoes, and a banana for breakfast every day. Can't argue with success, but I needed to give my body a break from the bananas for awhile.

You'll have to go to fastfood for a good onion, they bought up the grade A market before it was planted last year. I haven't noticed a bad fast food burger onion yet but from the grocery store they are all soft and slimy

Put in a closed brown paper bag will ripen them a day sooner.

But still I only eat 1 banana a day.

So if I buy more than 3 I'm guaranteed fruit flymageddon.

Hmmm... that works as well but if you don't want them ripening and going bad too fast, then colder temps are better.... keep them in the fridge....

They sweeten when the starches break down then get converted into sugar during the ripening process....

I eat a few bananas a week.... my main "go to comfort" fruit is Avacado's, Strawberries and Blueberries... :) ...

I don’t remember where I read it (might’ve even been here) but when bananas were first brought over to the United States, nobody wanted to buy them. They had to bribe people to eat them basically. Or something like that.

Bananas are basically poison to your liver because of the fructose content. They cause as much damage as alcohol, maybe a little more.

I think all you people are coddled with air conditioning. I buy green bananas (as green as I can get them) and they're banana bread in about a week to ten days. My house gets as warm as 90 degrees in the afternoon, with the whole house fan cooling us off in the evening.

After they tinge yellow, in order to keep them from ripening too fast, separate the bunch of bananas into individuals and wrap the stems with aluminum foil. Gives you about an extra 3 days till they get too ripe(then it's time for banana bread).

Pretty sure the "fruit flies" that you're seeing are actually dog pecker gnats. Just sayin'......

That's retarded, sugar doesn't hurt your liver, and even if you are diabetic, most can have fruit...but that's on the pancreas, not liver enzymes...

green banana rice is actually a good dish to make....i usually can't find green bananas.


another use for bananas is as a base for raw chocolate.

you mix them up with cacao powder, coconut oil and honey or maple syrup, then slap that stuff in the fridge.
