Yeah, well, the root problem is of course that humans have become a plague to the planet.

That said, to reduce conflict, you have to take out the individuals who infringes on human territory and show no fear.

Or you’ll end up with a population of wolves, bears, tigers or walruses or whatever that both culturally and genetically have little respect and fear of humans, and starts to roam towns and villages.

And we can’t have that. The best method of long term management, is thus to remove the fearless ones, to keep the general stock in a cultural and genetic state where it avoids us alltogether.

I have ospreys in the forests around my koi pond, and normally they keep well away. One year however, a juvenile decided to move in for the easy meals. In short order he tried to bring a sibling and its parents over, and if I had let it live it’d bring its own offspring too in time. And at the same time as his fearless genes would have propagated, he would also teach them culturally that my expensive koi was easy pickings, regardless of the stupid humans and dogs walking around on the lot.

And you’d end up with a population out of control, acting like pests.

So again, it’s just smart management to take out the ones that infringe on human territory. It keeps the general population in their place, and reduces conflict.

Walrus can be aggressive. Beluga whales are sweet. They will not attack.

DoDos were not used to any predators.
You could just walk up to a 3ft bird and bash it down or shoot it.
Only humans and animals brought by humans killed them off.
Trees in the area stopped growing because the dodos stomach broke down the seeds for them to grow.
