Never interested--wrong age/demographic I guess. I only read them because I got them for my children. I wanted to see what it was all about. More of the us v them - the children at the school were "special" and everyone else was a muggle if I recall. Just garden variety division programming, cont'd. My children were great readers and the right age, but I never saw them with a copy, and I never gave them any as presents at Christmas, etc, and I gave them a lot of books. That and Lord of the Rings, for some reason I was never interested, so references to the plots fly past me. I was never a fan of JRR myself. My son and daughter were avid readers by 10, and I thought it was so funny that everyone was amazed at the size of the Potter books. I think I read the first one in one day. If it had been one of the penguin books I had when young it would have been less than 200 pages. They had really small type and little margins... The good news is that children that read those stupid books were much more likely to read other "big" books. Mine did Pillars of the Earth not long after Potter. That book is a masterpiece and is very educational. You feel like you can build a cathedral, church, town, whatever when you are done. The Pillars of the Earth, Follett tells readers that he grew up in a Puritan-based family, whose worship space was very sparse. In preparing for writing, he was reading about medieval architecture, and: ... developed an interest in cathedrals. Before too long, it occurred to me to channel this enthusiasm into a novel. I knew it had to be a long book. It took at least thirty years to build a cathedral and most took longer because they would run out of money, or be attacked or invaded. So the story covers the entire lives of the main characters. My publishers were a little nervous about such a very unlikely subject but, paradoxically, it is my most popular book. It's also the book I'm most proud of. It recreates, quite vividly, the entire life of the village and the people who live there. You feel you know the place and the people as intimately as if you yourself were living there in the Middle Ages. Never heard of that book. I was always a big reader--before I did all my reading online! Very interesting! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83827444 Surprised you people don't say that Christ is satanic because he talked to the devil in the desert. Agreed. These books were fantastic and you missed out on much magic if you did not read them. Life is a magical mystery my friends. Stop labeling and restricting yourselves so much. Leave room for growth. |

The composition is a bit weird and looks funny on a computer screen (you can view it at the Met in NYC, the figure is life-size irl), but the central figure is really cool. Not exactly a Bouguereau or anything but still pretty sweet. Her books are part of the agenda, the brainwashing for the Satanists, so one can only wonder why she is standing up about this issue! She is a feminist. Feminists are actually rather pissed by the fact the leftist agenda they supported moved on, and they got thrown under the bus, in favor of the LGBTQP crowd. Lazy Monk |

Modern telling of the story is that it was a girl that had to pretend to be male to join the ranks of men. But in the original story, when comrades visited Mulan at home they were surprised to find him/her in women's clothes and didn't recognize him/her. So, was it a female playing a male? Or was it a male playing a female? Last Edited by Kitek on 08/13/2022 02:53 PM Conquer others is to have power, conquer yourself is to know the way. |
