Therapy is important for these people so that they don't act out any weird fantasies they have with minors. I think there are some people that are not trying to normalize 'MAPs', but rather they are trying to normalize these people seeking help via therapy. By 'vilifying' them and making this topic stigmatized, these people will chose to live in shame and hide away from people and not seek therapy treatment - which is bad as it can cause them to become child abusers. In the end... we need to de-stigmatize therapy for people with conditions like these. Children do not have the emotional maturity to make those types of decisions that will affect the rest of their lives. Children who are sexually abused often have life-long trust issues and develop various types of sexual maladaptive behaviors that put them at risk for sexual predators. How can they be expected have a healthy adult sexual relationship with a life-long partner if they've been damaged emotionally as a child. In addition, sexually abused children often turn to drugs and other maladaptive behaviors as a means to deal with unresolved childhood sexual trauma.
