When he was a baby, and up to the age of 2, his family lived in the upstairs apartment of a two-story flat in Memphis. Their downstairs neighbors were the Presleys. The two families formed a friendship, and the future King of Rock, just a teenager then, learned to pick up the cues when the Fruchters needed someone to turn on a light or unlock a door on Shabbooos. |

Quoting: Adjudicator Watch the 1979 Kurt Russel one and compare for yourself that it was the best Elvis portrayal ever! I will watch it, thanks! He was pretty good in 3000 miles to graceland too. |

Before Elvis, there was the Big Band era. Why was it called that? Because they needed a big band orchestra to fill out sound in a concert hall. After that in the early 60s - speakers got bigger and more powerful, with better low distortion amplifiers. Elvis was there in good timing to provide the sound. Along with Tom Jones, Epleburt Humberdink, and a few others, including females such as Ella Fitzgerald. |

Quoting: Kurt 79962045 Fake or real Elvis in that movie? I was a kid in the fifties. We had the record "Hound Dog". I didn't understand the gyrations. That was way over my head at the time. I went to all of his movies until around 1966. I didn't like the big glasses and sideburns. I started getting into rock music in the late 60s. I had friends that were die hard Elvis fans. I am only now understanding the history of his sound. We owe Elvis big time for bringing the history of the Blues, soul, and rock sound into music. He brought his own interpretation that was orginal. He had a great, warm, rich, full baritone voice with almost prefect pitch. Yes, Elvis was really that good. |

Personally, I was never a huge fan and believe he took his early act wholesale from Carl Perkins live radio shows he had been doing since late 40s. But even Perkins would tell you he was the best, so... as for me I have respect for any pro music act whether I like them or not |

Good is relative.. if you were into that sort of music, then sure, else, he's just another boyband type Except Elvis and his band were actual pro musicians. Aside from that massive distinction, sure, just like a boyband |
