That's probably because the current version of Covid going around is extremely nasty. A few days where you don't notice anything (my throat was numb but somehow I didn't notice; this is a well engineered bioweapon) then it hits you like a ton of bricks.

Also my suggestion after suspected exposure is to gargle with iodine. Dilute the 10% 1:1 or more. It really kills bad stuff in the throat and nose.
