I'm puzzling about the behavior of the monkeys.. It's not exactly grooming.. Is it scent marking?

It's about bugs..they think it gets bugs off of them. Very curious behavior.

Actually onion and garlic family plant do work as bug repellents.....no sure if its learned or taught behavior, I tend towards taught cuz the way they sit in the guy's lap while rubbing the onion on themselves....

I don't trust monkeys

Don't rub onions on your balls and you won't have to worry about teh pox if there are any escaped monkeys around.

I lived in Liberia for two years.

We had a pet monkey at our mining camp that one of the
workers brought with him from Monrovia.

This particular one was fun to play with and had a nice personality.

One thing that I will never forget was the incredible strength of the
animal for it's size.

Around them you never let down your guard.

While none of us were ever attacked, the locals were clear that the
thing could chew your face off.

Onions don't repel bugs. Monkeys rub themselves with all types of fruit and veg.
