Anonymous Coward User ID: 77374864 United States 08/11/2022 02:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | One can cover 10 - 15 miles per day with a backpack walking. One can cover 100 miles per day by bicycle (up to 150 actually), particularly if you can put your gear in a Tag-A-Long. Recommendation ... FIRST ... Set up your bag as a back packing trip, and actually try it out on a backpacking trip. AFTER you get that resolved to your satisfaction (what carrying and weight) THEN and ONLY THEN add the extra stuff you think you need for bugging out with the ADDITIONAL WEIGHT of everything you add staying at the top of your mind. (I always carry a VERY small transistor radio with SW even backpacking fwiw) Need advice in that regards ... forget prepper sites, and most recommendations here, they will overload you with CRAP, go look at backpacking sites to see how people actuall pack to be hiking or going into the wilderness for a few weeks on end with only limited resupply (ie: the only resupply being food if even that). The ONE area imo you want to be beefy on though is FIRST AID. Even when solo backpacking I carry an extensive first aid kit since in many years of being in the wilderness I have seen some pretty horrendous medical issues arise. You HAVE to be prepared for very serious medical situations, those are LIFE AND DEATH matters .. and 911 and an ambulance will NOT be available (as it is NOT on multi week deep wilderness trips into the north country in Canada). Broken Bones and deep cuts needing suturing and antibiotic treatment HAPPEN OFTEN! Be ready for them! Since you have a camper some of the bulkier items, heavier items, and LONG TERM items needed (ie: anti-biotics, more food, MORE water purification, MORE rain gear, COLD weather gear, MORE footwear, etc). can be placed in the camper. BE SURE to have a key for getting into the camper HIDDEN SOMEWHERE outside the camper. Be a real PITA to get there and have to break things to get inside. Make sure the camper's propane bottles are filled and maybe get something like a SOLO stove (or clone) so you can cook food efficiently with just small pieces of wood when the propane runs out. A couple of solar panels at the camper that can recharge AA or AAA batteries if nothing else would be good too (flashlights/radios/etc.) |

I'm quite far actually in that department. I have a bug-out-location being prepared, and a few possible locations where I might need to bug-there from. Up to 2 months on foot. Can't wait. I have nothing to worry about as Jesus Christ is with me - I just can't wait to get started with why I got here in the first place! :-) :cross: |

Thought of rebar bars in the window frames with plywood covering the windows with small slits. Attacker would just chain saw through the wood but the rebar might keep him out long enough to fall to lead. I suppose it's about location location location but attackers can travel in a vehicle or bike long distance. With a chainsaw they could just cut through your stucco and 2x4's and wallboard then they are in but by then you would prob be shooting. I'm beginning to think a group bug out might be better. Guess I'll just pray |

Apart from boots and the blue duvet/poncho which are 1000 fill down. Tbh even in winter. I could not carry pants. Just leave the down quilt and supplement the jacket with a synth vest but even then. Could still get by with just jacket but Id be mostly laying in a bag just to keep warm. Even carrying a blanket for summer ( shtf ) is a luxery. When I tested before. I could use blanket as a poncho. Which then tucks in pants. Jacket over down poncho. Can sit outside in cold. When sleeping. I can choose a system of red jacket and pants in red bag. Or baselayers and the poncho as a filler for red bag. Because I dont want to rely on down. I can rotate the system to maybe dry out moisture. Should be ok for all seasons. Maybe warm at times. I didnt buy a bag with a zip. Freak out I cant have a leg out of bag. Got loads more stuff though. A lighter weight system. With biking and should I ever go. Would only need a couple of UL items. UL rain jacket instead of a hardshell and of course an airbed. Instead of roll mats. Not showing off. Actually feel like a donut buying so much. https://imgur.com/a/M10mTLN |

I also made up fire kits with 7 ways to make fire and handed them out as gifts to family and friends. Spent about $300.00 doing that! I plan on going through my kit. I need to eliminate a lot of items to cut down on weight. It's been about 10 years since I put it all together and since that time, I have decided some of my items I have included are NOT essential. Very nice! I hate "one upping" anyone, but...I also bought AAA roadside kids for each of my children, my daughter-in-law and wife. They all looked at me like, "Gee, thanks" at Christmas. I laughed. I'm gonna make up five more bags for my other two sons, daughter-in-law, son's girl friend & wife. Camping around 11,000 ft. Going a few times in September. I'm accompanying a bow hunter which I think is really cool. Last couple times we found we had too much, but there were a couple things that we just need to make lighter. Have a super lightweight water filtration method. Have good freeze dried foods (super light and can be organic and extremely nutritious and full of protein. I'm gonna order from Mary Jane's kitchen). Have the right tools. Most importantly, take your time! Over doing things and over exerting only costs you more resources, hugely increase risks of injury, and stifles progress. Last year we did effectively 20 miles in a day! With 60 lbs! Exhausting. All I could do in the end was laugh, even when I could barely stay walking. We walked up about 2000ft incline over downed pine and all kinds of obstruction and brush. Leeches in the water... Lots of them. It's fascinating. So this time we are going to try to cut the weight in half or down 30% at least and spread out the trekking this time, sticking more to established paths. It's such a blast being out in the wilderness though, but it's real survival. Had a moose walk right by the tent at night lol felt like a dinosaur. :memorybanner: |
