Anonymous Coward User ID: 79274398 United States 08/11/2022 06:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was going to ask if you have a water filter OP? Then I assumed your answer would be yes. Quoting: Gamechanger 3.0 Do you have one of these though? Water filters will be no good at some point. This is essential. I have made my own with a cork lid. That’s if the way it is explained in the video is not possible for you or anyone to do I like that, thanks I will at least look into that. OP, here again under another user Id...the one that said they'd date. Anyways, I have this filter and it seems to work long time. [link to www.amazon.com (secure)] Similar to what I have, but I realize I want something that is .01 micron or less and it was compared to most others similar. Viruses are bigger than it allows. I think they are above 1 micron or can be above .02. Not an expert, but trying to help with what I've experience the past five years regarding camping stuff. |

Most people get knives are too big. Don't get a folding knife but one with a through tang for strength, blade only needs to be 2 1/2 - 3" long. Don't forget a portable sharpener. Blades dull quickly with use. Spare blades for your folding saw are another must have. do you have an emergency sewing kit? How about some paracord? Good on you for preparing. We all learn as we go. preserve civilization for me will you? Gen. John B Gordon and Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest were the finest citizen-soldiers birthed in America. |

Looks like a lot of useful stuff- but also packaging you don’t need. Also; have you familiarized yourself with these products? The more time you spend practicing your survival, the less you will want to carry. Things not to forget: Water containers and redundant filters. Salt and whole black pepper Good wool hiking socks and a wool base layer. Cordage and tarps. Steel wire is very useful in a pinch. Sturdy folding saw and compact loppers (fiskars makes nice ones that pack well) Lots of smaller packs to keep stuff organized- keep hygiene stuff in its own bag, clothes, tools, food.. Cotton balls soaked in paraffin wax makes a great fire starter, or use dryer lint. Make one big glob, wrap in aluminum foil to prevent wax stains, cut a tiny piece off and it lights instantly. A magnifying glass (or plastic fresnel lens) is handy for starting fires in sunny conditions and a fun toy to pass the time. I also have a bug out wheelbarrow and bicycle(s) The ‘chiappa x-caliber’ is a break barrel over under 12ga/22 rifle that comes with barrel inserts so you can fire virtually any ammunition round. It’s also a very light firearm, good for packing. I have various bug out scenarios considered, but I will probably not run, I will defend. Tannerite is a relatively safe explosive that can be placed around your perimeter- especially near areas you presume a treat would come from. Pack some garden gnomes with Tan and when the invaders come, don’t aim at the moving targets- aim at the gnomes! |

Keep them clean and dry- they make good gauze for wound care and serve other purposes. You can make your own water filter- start with a plastic jug, cut the bottom off, flip it over and insert filter paper, then layer (prerinsed) sand and finely crushed charcoal from your fire. Make a few layers like that and your done. Run water through till it comes out clean, then it should be good to filter several gallons. If you already have manufactured water filters but are dealing with dirty water, this is a good way to conserve your equipment by pre filtering. You can also use a clear plastic bag filled with water to form a lens to start a fire |

We all know about 95% of the population will be completely unprepared, and when thrist and starvation kicks in, people will become desperate and if they know you have essential supplies, you'll be attacked. I know you said you'll be carrying a few firearms and a knife, but I still don't know how much longer you'll be able to survive vs the non preppers just given they'll outnumber you about 100/1. I've prepped a little in case of an extended power outage, but I don't plan on vacating my home. Backup generators with solar Propane stove Lentils/beans/nuts/seeds/dried fruits That's about all I've got so far. Last Edited by E CaT PanTHer on 08/11/2022 10:57 AM |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 73312209 United States 08/11/2022 11:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | One thing I advise everyone to do is to think for all situations. Not everyone is in a rural area. Larger bug out bags are nice when you're already in the woods or in a rural area, but the absolute bare essentials in a common small student type backpack might be a better option if you are in a more populated area. That way you can walk through public without drawing as much unwanted attention, and you can run much faster if necessary. A person with a large almost brand new backpack full of stuff looks like a good resource target to a desperate person willing to assault you for what you have. The more used your backpack looks the better as well, because it creates a visual cue that you might know what you are doing and have more survival type experience. That makes messing with you appear more risky. Sometimes it's also better to appear weak instead of strong. Some of the most invisible people in society are the homeless. Looking dirty, walking slowly, and carrying their stuff in plastic bags. Dressing like one and carrying your stuff in plastic bags is a good bugout option for urban areas or for people who are not as physically fit. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 83969347 Also, try to devise a setup where you can carry your essentials on your actual body somehow. That way you still have your needs met if someone is able to steal your bugout bag from you or if you have to drop your backpack so you can run faster or climb something. Also, use your bugout bag stuff as often as possible. Don't just put everything in your bag and let it sit by the door. Use allows you to become familiar with everything you have and fine tune it over time. It also allows you to make sure everything is still functional and decent quality. For instance, once they have been used, some very popular brands of firesteel rods will actually disintegrate to dust if they sit unused for many months. Most people don't realize that. Even something simple like a knife can become an issue in an emergency. If you are used to using your home kitchen knives constantly, you create some muscle memory to the point where you can use them very rapidly without cutting yourself and you know intuitively how easily they cut through different things. If you switch to a different style or shape of knife in your bugout bag all those dynamics change, so you will be more likely to accidentally cut yourself when you least want that to happen. Find a good quality durable smaller sized knife (larger knives are easier to take from you if you ever get into a fight) that you enjoy using regularly in your home kitchen and then buy a duplicate of that knife for you bugout bag. Something simple like a plastic handled stainless bladed Morakniv are some of the best value knives made and they are extremely versatile. They also come with a simple plastic belt clip sheath. I don't think there is a better way to spend $12-15 on survival. Find a second extremely light and small folding knife and put that down in your sock for redundancy. Something like a cheap used Gerber LST is perfect. Lastly, skills are always better than stuff. Knowledge and experience in your head can't be taken from you and it can make up for many missing resources or deficiencies of preparation. I wish you the best OP, and everyone else reading this. Excellent points. When starting to get into buyout bags, noticed that several of the videos on them were of brand new stuff put together by people who prob couldn't hike 5 miles with all of the crap that they had in there, much less know how to use it all or what they might be lacking. Survival camping works on all of those aspects. Put a bag together. Go use it often and try your best to stay fit and in shape. |
