It's a pretty standard job offer from my reading, there isn't any malicious phrases or anything.

Yes, this is the same as a security guard or bounty hunter. A tax agent is essentially both, depending on if they are doing desk or field duty. They hunt suspected guilty people down and investigate their financials to protect American taxpayers interests.

Rich people and criminals tend not to like being investigated, so firearms are necessary.
