I lived in London for many years, and while there I met the love of my life that was from USA! Well, I moved up here , and that was 10 ago and never looked back! BTW: London now is a shithole, why you want to go there?

Like many capital cities, it's a dump.
Have a look at these channels.

London is expensive, at least minimum £1000 a month, very basic accommodation in a run down criminal ridden area. Only very expensive SW London is nicer & safer to live in, but expect to pay at least £1600 a month, simple room or studio.

There are also Housing Associations, cheaper than market prices, often as cheap as council rent sometimes. My council rent is £500 monthly, fully paid for if one isn't working.
Large deposits can be required for rental accommodation too.

I've known people who fast-tracked into cheap housing if they were pregnant women, alcoholics, hard drug users, Irish, gay/lesbian, ex-convicts or refugees. Some straight men put they were gay on the housing form, got accommodation right away, fully furnished and everything sorted out for them. For normies it's tough. Depends what one puts on the form. Met American women who put they were lesbian, sorted right away. When I say right away, I mean, within 3 to 6 months sorted. A lot of Mexicans & Spanish in London, who seem to have no issues getting accommodation. Mexicans have contact with Spanish Housing Associations in London, also know what to put on the forms, ticking the lgbtq+' box. I couldn't do that!

I too came to find a wife, the love of my life, but nothing, so do not get your hopes up. London is not a romantic city.

Living in London is a love/hate relationship.
London is also a Russian nuclear target, but there are so many rich Russians here, maybe... it's not.. a nuke target. Transport used to be cheap, but very expensive to travel on public transport & taxis. Price of a pint or a bag of fish n chips?! Shocking..!!! compared to north of England areas.
Had to give up driving in London, stuck in traffic jams all day & night, nothing moving! My patience ran out.

I live in Essex, which is 50 miles from London

Small coastal town which is semi rural, I have a 3 bed house with a garden - nothing special, and the landlord is pretty bad at any repairs

My rent is 800.00 per month, if you are thinking of re-locating to the UK, maybe look into surrounding areas of London, with easy train access

Its not how you imagine it will be in that city, its full of foreigners and not much English heritage left

So, take a look at the Essex coastal areas, Southend is OK, bit in your face but still better than London

I'm North Essex so away from any hustle and bustle , the town where I grew up has now been named as a city ( Colchester) and its AWFUL.....

So, unless you are wealthy and can afford to rent/but in a decent area of London , I personally would suggest looking into Essex/Surrey/Hertfordshire so you can at least escape the craziness when you get home....

I think one of the best things about living in the UK compared with the US is property taxes.
The are much cheaper in the UK. If you don't pay, then it's extremely unlikely you would lose your home.

There is very low unemployment at the moment.
Well worth looking at US based companies with UK offices to see what vacancies they have.
