An ongoing reduction that erases 75% of population over 3-5 years would leave the remaining population unable to produce food, power, or maintain civilization. We would end up back in the stone-age, and totally unfit for survival---except for TPTB that had it all planned out, and lived in their well stocked fortifications, with plans for the new world.

War is a very inefficient way of killing people. The Black Death was said to have killed 30% of Europe over a three year period. That was pretty grim. Once fatal diseases start, they do not discriminate against wealth and the elites.

Just careful management and birth control reducing the population by even a small amount has huge implications on who looks after the ageing population. The economic system relies on exponential growth of population!
